4595TS UPDATE - Shooting and Mods
Well I finally got to shoot my 4595! Just like many have said before me, what a ton of fun to shoot!! I'll list my mods and then talk about them.
Thingmiester 1911 Mag Mod
I watched the video and did the install. Super easy. One issue I had before shooting was the piece that goes in your handle (sticky back chrome piece) wadded up on me when I put in a mag. That was worrisome to me so I thought of a better way to hold the mag in there. The whole point of that piece is to keep the 1911 mag tight in the well. I used the soft side of velcro (heavy duty) and cut a piece that was the entire width and height of one side of the mag well. Worked great, isn't going anywhere and secure.
Field Sport Red and Green Reflex Sight with 4 Reticles
Lots of bang for a very small amount of buck! Of all the reticle options the one I used was the single dot. It was right on out of the box. No issues at all. So far I reccomend it.
Aukmont Front Iron Sights AR15 Tactical 45 Degree Offset
Some steel sites work for me but I wasn't sure about these. They were pretty close right out of the box. 10 rounds later and few clicks and I was hitting my mark at 25 yards out. I didn't touch the front site, only the back.
HP Mag Holder
I love the mag holders and my 10 round ProMags fit them and the stock perfect. Awesome.
ProMag 10 Round Nickel Mags
These are now my go-to mags. Mind you this was my first time to shoot this brand new gun. I had a couple of FTF the first 20 rounds but they could have been the gun. After that it was super reliable. Score. These also seemed to shoot fine in my Series 70 1911. I'll report back after more range time.
28 Round Korean Drum
One of the cooler purchases for the gun. This did not work for me at all. It would jam after 2 or 3 rounds. Oddly enough it worked great in my Series 70 1911 and even in my Colt Defender...which looked hilarious. I'm going to do some research before I sell it but I would NOT use it in the HP if I actually had to shoot at something.
LongShot 15.4" Full Length Picatinny Top Rail
I didn't want to spend this much on a rail for a $300 gun but I thought it was important for the top rail to be ridged. Plus it looks pretty cool (brushed aluminum). Went on easy and all my gear worked with it.
LongShot Aluminum Bottom Rail (6 inches)
I really didn't want to spring for this BUT I need some more length for my bipod handle and forward grip. This bought me 2 inches.
HP Plastic Side Rails
What a deal! This allowed me to get my LED light on the gun, add a thumb rest for my forward grip and I actually used the included sling mount that came with my forward grip on my side rail(the HP piece was too narrow for my sling hook). Just get them.
LED Light and 1 inch Picatinni Picatinny Offset Flashlight Ring Mount with QD Cam Lock
This mount is cool because it can come off easily. I keep the LED and mount on my desk. Worked great. I also have a link to my LED light. Only $14 and I think it works great. It also fit the mount I linked to. I have two of these light now and will probably grab a third for my truck.
Ledsniper®action Bipod Handle
I thought this might have been too "tacticool" and maybe over the top BUT it was totally useful. I used the handle as much as the forward grip and the bipod actually worked and was one of the reasons it was so fast and easy to sight in the 4595. Lets see how long it lasts.
GVN Tactical Ergonomic Forward Grip VTS PTK Rail-Sling-Attachment
As a kid on a ranch in Texas I had a rifle in my hands most of my life. This grip is what I always wanted way back then. Since I have the handle up front this is more to the back. I can tuck my elbow against my ribs and shoot in that style. I like it. I keep my HP tool in the handle. My red dot batteries should fit in there to and keep the tool from rattling (if they are in a bag).
Conclusion and One More Part to Add
I have to say, the 4595TS was a hit at the range. The range safety officer came over and said he has seen folks shoot these and never have a problem and even bragged on the HiPoint pistols.
When I started laying rounds down range I had people commenting on how quiet it was and it almost sounded like it had a silencer on it. I looked up at one point and 3 guys was looking at my carbine and talking to the range officer. I put up 3 fingers and said "$300!", you should have seen their eyes light up. It was a very positive experience and I REALLY like shooting the gun. The first few shots from the 10 round ProMag through the red dot were making big .45 sized holes on my target and me and my buddies were just grinning. Too much fun and worth every penny and more!!
The one thing missing is my
shroud. I have one coming from LongShot. I'll post up shots when I get it on. That should be it. AHH, one more thing, I'm going to get a
3x flip up magnifier for the red dot. I will have spent more on accessories than the damn gun! That's OK though because like the ranger officer said, "You guys look like you're have too much fun!!"
