Shaving

An odd bit of a way to relax I guess, but I enjoy a good shave.

My daughter's were showing me some kind of fancy aftershave and some fancy razor that I swear had 8 or so blades in it! They are gearing up for Christmas. They say I have an old man smell. They are wanting to modernize me! Get me some really cool shaving stuff.

I like my safety razor. The kind that opens like a butterfly so you can swap out the blades. Barbasol has been my mainstay for shaving cream and aftershave for as long as I can remember. I do like my horsehair shaving brush and shaving mug set and use it from time to time, but the shaving mug soap is getting hard to find unless you order it. If it's a special occasion, a date with SWMBO for example, I break out the English Leather!

There is a soap shop across from my son's Emporium. We visited there. I showed them the folding straight razors they sell. I told them how much I like them. Plus the hand made soaps. "Which ones do you like Pappy?" Whichever has the woodsy smell as long as it has a hint of clove in it.

I think they got the hint. I'm looking forward to opening my gift now!

Old spice is a favorite as well. Original only though. Which is only slightly easier to find than English Leather! I just can not get into all these newfangled scents.

I too love a great shave and have a copper wire beard. I've tried all the big company shavers and they all work OK but I purchased a Defender razor that give me the best shave of my life. I use a little shaving lotion for a lubricant.

Ok you did it. Foggy memories becoming clearer.

At around 12 peach fuzz was developing (if you used your imagination). After years of watching my father shave he began the ritual of teaching me to shave. Lathering the soap on the face. Practicing using the unsharpened edge of a table knife. Stropping the razor. Using it on a balloon. Then finally on my face. Sure lots of cuts but it was a great bonding process.

When I started the ritual with my son my wife gave him an electric razor and said " This is easier. Just be done with it."

Hell yeah styptic pencil! Early on, my eldest decided to borrow my old fashioned safety razor to shave her legs. Nicked herself good, so, she grabbed my stytic pencil and her "YEEEOW!!" woke up the entire house. Collateral benefit: My shaving gear became sacred (shoulda been in the first place), 'cause nobody dared use it ever again. ;)

I can't stand shaving! A razor is like running a rake over my face. When finished it looks like I sharpened the rake. Then I breakout. I HAVE to have the CORRECT electric or screw it! I ain't doing it! However I freaking hate facial hair! Can't stand it! I am NOT a fan of this manly man thing.

Ajole is right again! I refuse and near gag on those 70s man stink everyone seems to like. Jovan. And 2 drops ONLY! One under each pit with unscented pit chit. I call it pit s_it. When I'm low I say "Pit s_it." and it magically appears the next day.

My preferred hair tonic is Vitalis.

My dad used Vitalis. All my life I though my dad had dark hair, until sometime in my 20's I found out it was really red! He had quit using it by then, but when he quit his hair was already gray! He also used Barbasol and Old Spice. Still love that smell!

I'd love to find an old "Safety Razor", Gillette Blue Blades, mug & brush. I'd finish it off with Canoe after shave.
As far as hair; my crash helmet out grew that years ago.
Old? Yes. But I'm still here (fulfilling my goal, so far).

I used to wear a full beard but I changed it to a Van **** many years ago, so I still have a good amount of face to shave.

I was all into the latest shaving stuff untiI I decided, if I gots to scrape whiskers off'n my face...and I do...I'm going to do it the right way and go old school. No more expensive multi-blade gizmos, no more plastic junk, no more wasteful cans of shave-goo.

So, I'm now using a Gillete Superspeed which used to belong to my late father-in-law, double edge razors, shave soap in a bowl, and decent after-shaves. NOT cologne. I don't do cologne.

You can pick up old razors at yard sales for a song or antique stores if you don't mind paying a bit more. Very good double-edge blades can be ordered online...The prices they ask at retail stores for junk razors is a crime. Shave soap and brushes online, too.

If you like the smell of cloves, track down some Ogallala Bay Rum. Not the cologne they sell at Duluth...get the after shave. Warning. Shake it well before you use it, or you'll feel like you set your face on fire. Yeah...It's that good.

I can almost remember the smell of Brylcreem...I think I liked it.

I got some 100 pack of decent safety razor blades for cheap, and a low priced Merkur razor. Could last me the rest of my life...
