I still want a long barreled 30-30.

I really liked the H&R Handi Rifle. Especially the Classic series. They had the Buffalo Classic in 45-70 with a 32" barrel. The Target Classic in 38-55 with a 28" barrel, and the Buffalo Classic Carbine in 45 Colt with a 20" Barrel. I really think the missed the boat by not offering a "Hunter Classic" in 30-30 with a 26" Barrel and a "Varmint Classic" in 22 Hornet with a 24" Barrel.

Winchester made the Model 94 30-30 with a 24" barrel. I liked that rifle. It passed down to my sister. Winchester made a M94 Musket with a 26" barrel. They also produced the Musket with a 30" barrel.

Today there are a couple of long barreled 30-30's that I like. The Marlin 336 XLR comes in stainless with a pepper laminate stock with a 24" barrel. A look that brings it into the 21st Century. And Taylor's and Company offers the Half Pint Sharps, a scaled down version of the full size rifle in 30-30 with a 26" barrel. Definitely a 19th century rifle. It's also offered in 22 Hornet. That would be the perfect pair!

I keep threatening to line my 45-70 buff Classic with a .308 liner and chop the barrel to 26". Not something I will likely do, but the thought keeps swimming around in my head.

You know you have "more than a few" rifles when you have to say "let me find it".

But yeah kinda like tools, you know how that is - when you need s specific tool and can never find it... of course you find it AFTER you no longer need it...

Why I have a spreadsheet for my rifles and ammo , yeah OCD...

Paging thru and found this post...
I have a text article from a survivalist website, the gentleman is retired LEO and a VET, he has worked up many loads for long barreled rifles, subsonic loads that basically need no can. I have experienced this with my 20" octagonal barrel Henry, with just 40gr standard velocity rounds. No ears needed and no reciprocal action noise!! It was sweet shooting no one inside heard a thing :D

Now that Ruger owns Marlin, I will likely order the 336 XLR. From most accounts, Remlin was getting their act together, but I was still wary of ordering due to uncertainty. Just waiting until Ruger has solid control of the helm.

I have the "brush gun" angle covered with the Mossberg 464 Davidson Exclusive Brush Gun. I have had good luck with mine. If Mossberg made one with a 24" barrel I would already own one, especially if it came in Marinecote with the Pepper Laminate stock like the Brush Gun has. Wouldn't hurt if they made a model in 357 and 44 magnum as well.

ALL Mossbergs are pretty dang Sweet, except the 715T, that is a true POS. Feels like a toy gun, exact opposite of the S&W M&P 15/22, which is a reasonable facsimile of a real AR15. The Mossy is way too light and the plastic is very cheap and most of the AR15 "features" are just molded in and fake. The Smiff has functional everything, almost. Some have even though that it might be possible to make it into a real 5.56 AR15. But I doubt it.
I changed muzzle brakes, and stocks. The real AR stuff fits great! Pistol grip would prolly work too.

Well....duh. The 715 is a $110 Plinkster in a shell. It was about $100 less than the S&W.
And I DO have Mossbergs that aren't that sweet. They had some cheap crap over the years.

What's that got to do with PCC lever guns or long barreled 30-30's??

Technically Greg drifted his own thread.

That Western Auto Supply .243 made by mossberg was really nice. Shame I decided to give it back after he died and she wanted something to remember her dad by. It'll never get shot, ever again.

I have 15 or 16 Mossbergs, the old ones from the ‘40’s and ‘50’s, into the ‘60’s were amazing guns, then the ‘70’s hit...Ugh. But, the basic Plinkster is the best $107 rifle out there, even if they are more than that now.

I have a Nylon, got it for free! The gunsmith at one LGS was shutting down his part of the operation, we’d talked a lot of .22 over the years, so he just gave me one with a few cracks in the stock. Bought a CBC made in Brazil version in black to go with it.

No GUN like a Free GUN!!!
Dad gave me the Beretta MINX and it's a keeper, I think I will love it almost as much as the S&W 686 'no dash' that I will inherit someday.
