Yeah I passed up on a Storm and regret it till this day. 399 new from a police contract that was canceled. Got my 92FS the same way. But this was just this past year. The .40S&W Glock was 3rd gen. Again not a bad gun. I would dabble in the Glock/Storm compact model pistols for conceal carry in the future.

The big question is the SIG. Are you referring to the SIG226 that the Beretta won the military contract for. Or a different model in general.

Thanks again for your reply.
the entire P series of SIG pistols is basically the same, except for physical size, caliber and some options. the operating system is the same throughout the series. my P6 made in 1974 is the same as a brand new P229 or P226 today. the only blowback SIG is the 380 P232 and teh mosquito in 22 lr. in general, the enitre lin eof SIG pistols is absolutely top of the line for quality, durability and reliability. they are worth every penny of the sometime exorbant prices they bring. A SIG is in reality a pistol you will own for the rest of your life. you will not wear it out. The navy SEALs use them in every enviroment from salt water to jungle to sand and swear by them. i am by no means a SIG fanboy. they have problems just like every other gun does. But the problem children are few and far between and SIG customer service is up there with HPs.

Sig's and Glocks aren't really based on a 1911.....I have an old colt, it has a buffalo nickle notched rear sight and an indian head penny for the front and will outshoot anything else i own, as loose as it is, including my Springfield and Kimber. The Springfield had a bunch of work done on it by Mark Morris, and it is one reliable great shooting gun, however i have so much money tied up into it i hate to take it out.... Google his name, or it may be MCP.COM, not but and you will find some incredible 1911's if you don't mind spending $8000.00 for a custom pistol. He is coming out with a base model for around $4000.00 that looks like a sweet piece. The Kimber is a great carry gun, reliable and acurate.
Stay away from the Rock River.....i bought one and sold it the same day.......JUNK

What's a good AFFORDABLE 1911. I would love to get one, but don't feel like shelling out 800+ for a pistol.
Rock Island Armory (parent company is Armscor) got mine brand new OTD for $435. It is an excellent shooter, stock you can take a place in a competition. Primal took 3rd with his RIA .38 Super at a shooting Comp. The company makes their 1911 most like the original pistol compared to any other brand, you can put any M1911A1 custom part on it and it will work fine.
Actually, my RIA is .45ACP. The Springfield is .38 Super.... And yes, I took 3rd place overall at the Holloman AFB shooting competition. I was up against half the damn Security Forces squadron, and I pwnt them. LOL!

RIA is a damn good 1911 for the money as it's mil-spec and you can upgrade the internal parts for not alot of coin. The only thing I don't like about RIA is their crappy factory sights. I am going to have mine upgraded when I get to Alaska, as I didn't have time to do it here.

Best "pricey" 1911's : Les Baer and Nighthawk Industries
Best "mid-level" : ParaOrdnance and Springfield Armory
Best "budget" : RIA and Taurus.

You get a lot for your money with a Taurus. I own both a Nighthawk and a ParaOrd, and I actually prefer the ParaOrd. Call me crazy.
