You can get a new in box Bushmaster AR for 700 bucks (collapsible stock 16 inch barrel), not bad in my book. Or if you had the money get a Noveske AR. You will not find a better AR.

I heard mini 14's had frequent jamming issues, is that true?

Wow no one is listening to me.

There is a place that sells Bushmaster AR's for 700 NIB. It's called Hoplite Inc. 502-955-5014 8am-5pm EST. It has a collapsible stock, 16" heavy barrel, 30 rd mag, it's an A2 style carbine.

Their ad is in Shotgun News all the time.

It is a "base" model bushwacker. It is no better (and maybe worse) that a kit put together for the same price with an upgraded trigger set up. My bull barreled set up with drop in trigger cost me the same. It takes all of 15-30 min to put a lower together, and any decent kit comes with the upper already assembled. I believe anyone that wants to own an AR should have to build it... if you don't know how it works, then you can't take care of it properly. There are too many people buying these (and ak variants) that just don't have an idea how they work. (see my OT below)

It's not like that is the deal of a century. Besides, that setup isn't legal in the commie states (mine being one of them).

anywho, my OT rant
I'm in the gun store this weekend picking up some ammo and there is a husband and wife at the counter. The wife says "oh cool, look an AK-47". She then starts running her mouth about all the rifles and shotguns she owns, and how often she goes out shooting. The salesman hands her the gun, and she is standing square, and holding the gun out in front of her trying to shoulder it. Standing square she can't reach the hand guard... she then asks "How do I hold this?"

The salesman should have clubbed her like a baby seal right there... but instead said "you're doing it right", and then rang them out for $750. ROFL
I know it is a "base model bushwhacker", it can't be that much of one as people on here post their over a grand AR's and they don't have a basic collapsible stock, that's why I put it on here. Some people want a decent not over a grand AR ready to go and there it is and no one wants it, they seem more picky than I am.

I know how one works, in Basic I had to take it apart and put it back together in like 2 minutes, so I don't want to put one together when I get it. I don't want a kit as they tend not to be as good of quality as the one I have ( Colt Gov't, Law Enforcement Use Only model) or the ones I dream of having like a Noveske http://www.noveskerifleworks.com/
You will not find a better built AR. For example they use machine gun grade barrels, and yes there is a difference between them an assault rifle barrels, simply stronger materials are used. The quality is off the charts. For people with the "An AR is an AR" mindset I feel bad for them as they have no clue.

Should club the salesman too

There is no doubt that an AR is not an AR. I have (had... got rid of it) one example of a horrible lower. Everything was over sized, and you would think the mill had been run buy a drunk russian. lol

Oh, and being military you more or less had to build one of your first AR's too. :)
True I did have some experience with them prior to service because my dad has a couple. And Basic is probably why I don't want to build another one :p

not to my experience, except with certain 30 rd mags. Every factory 20 rd mag I have functions perfectly. The mini14 took design clues from the M14, and will fire dang near every time whether dirty, uncleaned, whatever. They are highly reliable. Someone on here once said you can't expect sub MOA accuracy with them, which is true, but you can expect it to fire when you pull the trigger.
Good to know. Is yours a newer mini? Just curious because I talk a lot of gun with my dad and he said it was more recent that they fixed the jamming issue. I can see where they got the design ideas from the M14. I like how the thing looks, it looks like a baby M14 :p.
