NORWALK, California — May 14, 2021

The winner of a $26 million California Lottery prize may have literally washed the chance of a fortune down the drain.

The winning SuperLotto Plus ticket for the November 14th drawing was sold at an Arco AM/PM convenience store in the Los Angeles suburb of Norwalk. Thursday was the last day to redeem it.

Nobody did.

Store employee Esperanza Hernandez told the Whittier Daily News that a woman came in Wednesday and told workers that she had put the ticket in her pants and it was destroyed in the laundry.

The store's manager told KTLA-TV that surveillance video showed the woman who bought the ticket, and she's known to store workers.

A copy of the surveillance video was turned over to California Lottery officials, the manager said.

The claim will be investigated, lottery spokeswoman Cathy Johnston said.

Man, stinks to be her losing that much money. I believe after taxes the jackpot would still be over $10,400,000. I could retire on that with an investment that only paid a mere 3.5 to 4% annual interest.

Just like a casino, they f**** you at every turn.
I worked for a casino for six years and I agree. They are a den of liars and deceivers. I am glad I do not work there anymore. A casino is a place built by losers.

But they are rich losers....
Losers (those looking to exploit the weak minded) built the casino and the losers of the games made them rich. The only sure way to make money at a casino is to be an employee at one.

Lottery I find is a double win financially for governments. It is a voluntary tax. And if you manage to beat the terrible and extreme odds stacked against you they take about half of the money away in State and Federal income taxes in most States.

So a person of clearly modest means buys a lottery ticket, which could potentially be (literally) her ticket to a better life and brighter financial future, then up and forgets about it before checking to see if the numbers hit? Hogwash! (See how I did that?) Most lottery players treat the ticket like it was a million dollars (because it possibly IS) before learning that its worthless and disposing and/or forgetting about it. No doubt the ticket exists out there somewhere but I find the laundry story somewhat dubious. And how would she know that her numbers hit if she had put the ticket through the laundry? If she says it WAS the winning ticket then she must have checked the numbers before she laundered it, and if so, why would she then forget about it? Have I over analyzed this enough? OK, its late and I'm dreaming of electric sleep.

Maybe she washed the pants before the drawing?

Many lottery players play the same numbers every time the buy tickets. I don't know about you, but I've forgotten that I had cash in my pants pockets and run them through the washing machine. It's not uncommon to do that with things you put in your pants pockets.

Yes.
