3/4" scopes?

2134 Views 26 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Farmplinker
Looking for a couple of scopes. Want a 3/4" tube with claw bases for a grooved .22 receiver. I do not want the
el-cheap-o Walmart Special scope, but something reasonable. Any thoughts?

You are going to get the Walmart types, like that Barska above, or you will spend $200+ on some vintage Redfield or Weaver B model.

Why 3/4 inch? There are decent 1” tubes with 32 mm bells that aren’t too much for the gun. Leupold makes a $300 28 mm bell scope, 1” tube.

Those claw mounts are called “tip-off” rings, or 3/8 inch dovetail rings. Some people just say “dovetail” which just confuses everyone.

My last two scopes were Simmons Pro Target Rimfires, 2-7x32 for $26. Far better scope than the $20 20mm scopes. But they are target reticles, not the fine crosshairs type.

Your comment about the Nylon 66 just got me thinking about the 2 rifles I have from my dad’s collection. A GR8 and a Nylon 66 Mohawk. I think a 1 inch tube would be out of place on those rifles.

I had a Marlin model 60 with a 2x7 "TV" view with a duplex reticle. I can not remember who manufactured it, just that it was marketed with "TV". I would like to find a couple of those.

Wife got me one like this years back. I liked it really well until my eyes got old. Still use it on my .177 "Chipmunk" medicine.
Looked at these. They have a fixed 4x version. I might just get one for the GR8.

You mentioned that you liked it until your eyes got old. Explain please. I am wanting to scope my rifles precisely because my eyes have gotten old!

@ajole i do believe the Widefield just may have been the “TV” scope I had. It’s hard to believe that nobody makes a quality 3/4" scope for .22 rifles today.

Amazon showed a BARSKA 4X20 3/4" scope in matte black. Dunno if it's any good though.
That’s the one I ordered for the GR8, the Nylon 66 is getting a vintage Weaver off of e-bay
