Dang. Put a longer screw-on barrel on it and you'd have a decent enough gun for folks who can't afford something better to defend themselves. You could pass 'em out like party favors.

And they talk about being laughed off the range for using a hi-point.
For $4 who cares if it works.

I dunno about illegal, but I'm sure the media would play it as one of those "OMG a cheap gun! It must be used only to slay babies and police officers!" type deals.

IF the bbl was rifled, it would be a legal handgun to make today. It's predecessor, the "Liberator" was a smoothbore .45 and would be an "AOW" if it wasn't exempted as a curio and relic, so no new replicas of those.
