Being a 32 auto does not penatrate as well as a 9mm. Would it not be better to have a FMJ over a JHP for a defensive round?

Thanks SW for confirming my thinking! Altho it's not a moot point when a JHP cost 1.5 to 2.5 more than a FMJ, right?

From what I have read, JHP don't perform well even in 380 as far as expansion goes, especially out of the smaller guns. I carry JHP in my P3AT just because I can, but I carried FMJs in it up until about a month ago. I don't really like the .32 myself. I feel fine carrying my P3AT, but I feel real safe with my P345 (.45 ACP) or Glock 17 (9x19mm). SW is kinda the local ballistics guru though, so he's more apt to be able to answer technical questions about velocities and whatnot. A lot of what I've learned is from reading his posts.

380 is borderline on speed for relaible expansion. unless you run something real high end like hornady TAP or critical defense at 2$ per round, its a crap shoot. for my mouse guns i run FMJ in all of them of late cause its all i can find. i did score some 380 JHP about a month ago, but it doesnt feed through my beretta 70S without constant jams.
