Honestly, I voted wrongly, on purpose. I voted over $20 as that is how much I spent on mine, but since I have one, I doubt I'd buy another as I have what I believe to be the best looking one out there so far. But would be interested in seeing what you have come up with.

·i am going to try to get a photobucket account so i can post pictures of my gun with the shroud. these are side projects i have been working on at work. if i get enough intrest i might have to get my own machines and material (just been "barrowing" scrap). i gave a few away in the free section and i sold 2 in a post. just testing to waters. maybe i can market them to benny?

·yea, i don't mean to jack the design. i just built a few extra and gave some away. then someone suggested trying to sell them. they give the gun a great look!

Well, honesty is the best policy so here it is. Tonight I sent thekrnel $15.00 for a trial issue of his barrel shroud, to which I will be giving reviews to the entire forum. Yes, I did pay for the shroud + shipping. However, if it works out that this is a good buy, I have come out ahead of the game.
Ask yourself, "what does a barrel shroud really do?"
Answer: It allows heat to escape the barrel so that you don't lose accuracy, and helps disapate that heat. Basically it acts as a heat exchanger for your barrel. Cold air moves over surface of the shroud as hot air moves underneath. The holes in the shroud itself allow heat to escape thus cooling the barrel = thus "maintaining" accuracy. This addition to your rifle will not IMPROVE your accuracy, only you can do that. All this shroud does is help maintain the accuracy of sustained fire.
It also acts, indirectly *as this is NOT it's primary purpose*, as a compensator by weighing down the muzzle of the weapon, thus reducing the muzzle jump. By doing so, it helps keep you on target longer and helps on follow up shots as well.
To me, as long as this product helps keep me on target and reduces heat and muzzle jump, it's worth $15.00 all day long.
A full product review will be forthcoming once I recieve the product, install and test it. BTW, "thekrnel" better be ready for more forumite orders for this product, if it's as good as it claims to be. If this shroud can keep up with me and is worth the price, you guys better jump on it as soon as you can. I'll let you know.

For thekrnel, or anyone who has snagged one of these, are they solid stock that fits close to snug over the whole length, or tube stock with spacers? I can't really tell from the pictures. I may have an idea for you thekrnel, if you'd like to give it a shot. I'll do some measuring, and make some drawings and get back to this.

·these are made of tube stock, but no spacers. it is a very tight fit. perfect, you might say. i'd love to hear a new idea.

Well, here are a few ideas, the first two will take more machining. Oversize the hole by 1/4 inch give or take, then thread both ends. The end caps would be at the same diameter now and each have the set screw. You would of course have to adjust the length of the current design to allow for the end caps. You could then machine hole patterns, this design is similar to those already out there.
You could also keep the same design you have and drill a hole pattern in your current shroud design.
One other idea I had was to use some slightly larger bar stock to get more of that suppressor look. Just some ideas to play with.
