Hey, don't apologize for the long post -- we love detail here. 995s are a dream and Dad's surprise was the icing on the cake! And: fie on those naysayers!
I was surprised at how little recoil there was for a gun that powerful. We had our targets taped to a piece of 3/4 inch decking that was 6 placed inches in front of a full-dimension 2x6. Behind that we have a few grain sacks piled up to form a berm. The SKS punched through both boards and the sacks, with enough energy left to kick up a shower of shale from the bank that all of this stuff is placed in front of! I will be replacing the grain sacks with sandbags before our next outing.I have yet to own a Carbine (Still waiting for the 4595), but I do own a Norinco (chinese) SKS, and yes, I do love that little rifle! At our AZ shoot, I shot it, my AR, and my Yugo AK underfolder out to a 300 meter steel plate. Open sights, it had NO problem going out that far at all.
lol... I wouldn't put it past him. The man trades guns like crazy, you never know from day to day what he might have. That's why I am thinking I might talk him out of that SKSHey gtv,
Next time you both go to the range, your dad may have another surprise for you....his own 995!!!
