Well, just got back from my second outing with my 995, my JCP .40, and a surprise... but more on that later.

First, let's just say this: I am definitely a carbine man. From 25 yards, with the JCP, I can hit all around the bullseye, but just cannot seem to find my center. At self-defense ranges, I can find the red, but beyond that, my aim is off. Still get groups in the kill zone, but not close enough for me.

Now for the 995. This time, I left the promag at home and just went with my one stock 10 rounder. My dad was there again, and we took turns shooting from @55 yards with open sights. Everything we threw down range found the bullseye. Have I mentioned that I LOVE this gun!!! At one point, dad turns to me and says "I cannot believe this... I cannot miss!" My thoughts exactly. We were shooting Remington UMC 115 grain FMJ (my first outing with this ammo) and she never even hiccupped. It was like we were pouring shells through it with a funnel. When I left, I had to pry it out of dad's hands.

Now the surprise: I was starting to pack up and dad says "wait, got something to show you" and walks to the truck, coming back with his new toy, a Chinese SKS in ATI Monte Carlo stock. Talk about an evil looking black gun. So we load it up and start plinking from 55 yards. First time I have shot an SKS and now I see why people love them. That is one sweet piece of machinery. I made him promise to sell it to me if he decides he doesn't want it.

Sorry for the long post, but I cannot get over how much I enjoy that 995. I would have posted pics of the target, but dad is taking it to work to show the naysayers... I think he may get a 4095 for himself soon :D

PS., I took the laser off of my 995 when I cleaned it tonight... decided I just don't need it.

I have yet to own a Carbine (Still waiting for the 4595), but I do own a Norinco (chinese) SKS, and yes, I do love that little rifle! At our AZ shoot, I shot it, my AR, and my Yugo AK underfolder out to a 300 meter steel plate. Open sights, it had NO problem going out that far at all.
I was surprised at how little recoil there was for a gun that powerful. We had our targets taped to a piece of 3/4 inch decking that was 6 placed inches in front of a full-dimension 2x6. Behind that we have a few grain sacks piled up to form a berm. The SKS punched through both boards and the sacks, with enough energy left to kick up a shower of shale from the bank that all of this stuff is placed in front of! I will be replacing the grain sacks with sandbags before our next outing.

We were using Wolf 122-grain hollowpoints (non-corrosive) in the SKS. Also, I forgot to mention in my first post that I ran 60 rounds of .40 S&W WWB through my JCP with no failures of any kind. It is a great pistol, I just need to work on my technique.

Hey gtv,

Next time you both go to the range, your dad may have another surprise for you....his own 995!!!
lol... I wouldn't put it past him. The man trades guns like crazy, you never know from day to day what he might have. That's why I am thinking I might talk him out of that SKS :D

He does seem very pleased with my 995, though. But he did mention he would like it in a black stock instead (I haven't told him I am holding out for the new stock, should it be released this summer as hoped for), so he might just show up with a shiny new black beauty.
