Went to the ren fest last weekend. You know what comes next.
I couldn't help myself. I managed to avoid most of the silliness and I really dislike most of the "swords" they sell because of historical inaccuracies, being overbuilt, or just being plain fantasy goofiness. That said there are a few of them that aren't bad. I'm just usually not willing to pay renaissance fair prices for them.
There were, however, two knives which ended up catching my eye. The first is nothing special, just a standard Pakistan import. But the steel seems mostly okay and I really like the bone handle. It is a not necessarily 100% accurate riff on the Scottish skean dhu dagger. I can see this as a utility camp type knife.
The second is a custom-made pattern welded folder from a joint out in texas. I love the feather pattern in the steel and the jumping on the blade back is nice. The file work on the liners and liner lock, attractive wood grips, and inlaid Mosaic pins pattern is just icing on the cake. While it is designed and intended as a pocket or belt carry, it's just too pretty to do that. It will probably end up as a display piece.
