Went to the ren fest last weekend. You know what comes next. ;)

I couldn't help myself. I managed to avoid most of the silliness and I really dislike most of the "swords" they sell because of historical inaccuracies, being overbuilt, or just being plain fantasy goofiness. That said there are a few of them that aren't bad. I'm just usually not willing to pay renaissance fair prices for them.

There were, however, two knives which ended up catching my eye. The first is nothing special, just a standard Pakistan import. But the steel seems mostly okay and I really like the bone handle. It is a not necessarily 100% accurate riff on the Scottish skean dhu dagger. I can see this as a utility camp type knife.

The second is a custom-made pattern welded folder from a joint out in texas. I love the feather pattern in the steel and the jumping on the blade back is nice. The file work on the liners and liner lock, attractive wood grips, and inlaid Mosaic pins pattern is just icing on the cake. While it is designed and intended as a pocket or belt carry, it's just too pretty to do that. It will probably end up as a display piece.

Back in the day the good ol' boys from LaBelle Florida invited me to hunt piggies. No guns, just dogs and a Techna dive knife. We were in an area that was being cleared for a subdivision. Not supposed to be there hunting. Cover for the hogs was scarce. The dogs latched onto a 100-ish pound sow. The knife man forgot the knife in the truck...............I had a Pakistani lock blade that wouldn't take an edge. Stuck the piggy in the heart and dragged it back to the truck. It did the job.

Damn, popped that into Google expecting to find some cosplay pictures of Rachgier but can't pick him out with all that Klingon make up.
Too fat and lazy for cosplay. Besides, with my build the only characters I could pull off would be Fred Flintstone, Angry Biker#4, or Dead Russian#9. Maybe even the stunt walrus from Tusk...

Forgot about Shrek, which is sad because somebody just recently asked if I had ever gone as Shrek for Halloween...

Also a common nickname because of arm length..
One of my Sgts was this monster of a man from Georgia. His dad was a pig farmer. This guy was so jacked we used to call him that. Hurt his feelings. But Jesus he was huge. He was on American Gladiator one time

Nowadays,

If I want a new sharp, I go to BudK's.

Lots of blades to choose from - swords, knives, axes, blunt force trauma inducers.

Pretty reasonable rates, too.
