A few weeks ago I bought a Zastava M77, an ak variant in 308.

It got a good open sight workout and I was shooting a 4 inch group at 100 yds with the open sites. Not a single misfeed/fire in the break in then workout. Since the m77 does not have the chrome lined barrel it got a full break in and accuracy made a consistent improvement. While I liked it, I was not a fan of the black plastic furniture, but the m77 has a very different receiver attachment that makes changing it out a little difficult. I also wanted to take advantage of the scope rail and remove the barrel nut and put on a flash hider.

    So it begins...

The first was to transform the plastic to wood...I chose to hydro dip.

    First clean, prime and paint.

Then the dip process, you get the video.

In between drying times of the process I modified 4 m14 magazines to fit the m77. M77 mags are very hard to find and buy and are very high $$$ if you find them. I got surplus for $15 instead. The had to have a slot cut in the front to catch on the ak mechanism, and in the back for the ask mag release.

After 3 coats of automotive grade clear coat, if I jack up the finish it is strictly on me  , it was time to put it all together.

I love the way it turned out and can't wait to get to the range with it.

Awesome! I love the furniture on the M77 but also hate the plastic. Im a huge fan of thumbhole stocks. You did a real nicer job on her! When your ready to sell, let me know ;)

Don't hold your breath. I liked the feel, but not the look.

Nice work Grant! I wished they made some south paw furniture for the M77.

Just out of curiosity and since I have an AT47 that hasn't been shot yet, what barrel breakin procedure did you use?

Clean with carbon cleaner, 1 shot.
    Clean, 2 shots
    Clean, 3 shots
Etc until I worked up to 10. After the clean following the 10 I shot as normal.
If there are any imperfections in the barrel, this helps smooth them out.

My accuracy increased at least 2 MOA during the break in.

I used Otis 012-c, because it was in my bag. Hoppes 9 or any of your favorites should work. You want a little friction in this process so don't use CLP, etc since it has the lube included. For this you want a cleaner only.

The stock required a little touch up. Surprisingly the chum hole came out perfect, the problem was around the top of the dip, font and rear edges what was really the bottom.

Great lookin piece. What did you give for the stock weapon may I ask? I've been looking at a good semi to shoot 308. Can't seem to make up my mind.
