LOL... the way my 401K is tanking, we may all be paying for stuff like that soon.
Seriously, though, when I was growing up, that is the way it worked around here too. You would do a favor for someone, like plow their garden for them, or help repair some fencing, and the next day, they would bring you a dozen eggs, a freshly baked loaf of bread, or a basket of apples... you know, just something to show their appreciation. For some reason, giving payment-in-kind was acceptable to everyone, but if you offered money, it just somehow didn't seem right.
