Sounds like your leather wasn't treated well Z. I do leatherwork as a hobby, and a little olive oil works wonders. In fact I had on a belt and holster for my SAA last night in the rain and snow, and she's just as soft and pliable today as when I made it.

And remember before nylon in the old west, all they had was leather. It seemed to work fine for the cowboys as long as you take care of it.
Yes, BUT their guns weighed 6 lbs or more. Also times change,Nylon will last, clean, and repair easier My duty gear is all nylon and after 15 years in rain, snow, dust, dirt, and other junk still looks new [ And I used my equipment hard]
