Now that I have a source of income again, I'm already saving up for my next gun.

At first I was going after the elusive HK P7M8, or the ever more rare Hk P9S. Both are fantastic shooters that will eat any ammo you feed it, and work eveytime you pull the trigger.

But then I remember how cool the FiveseveN and it's shiney new round are. It will be a few hundred more than the former mentioned. I've heard mixed reviews about it. First, it's more accurate than any shooter can be, it has virtually no recoil. And it holds 20-30 rounds. The bad: They are VERY finicky about the types of ammo fed to it..making the adjustable sight model the best choice. There are few problems out of the box, including FTF, FTE, and FTFire. With 25% of them being sent back to FN for tweaking. And wont be a decent, reliable shooter until fully broken in at ~500 rounds. The trigger is a little heavy too for a SAO firearm.

The biggest factor behind it is...ammo is available for it everywhere around here. Even in the scare, ammo for it was still around. Decenlty priced too from what I remember, about the same for a box of .45ACP.

I assume you mean the SS196 or SS192 ammo? The SS190 is military and LE only. I witnessed an FN demonstration about 10 years ago with the SS190 cartridge fired from their handgun and a MP5 style carbine. The round penetrated a kevlar vest and a kevlar helmet with no problem at 25 yds. No pictures were allowed to be taken and every spent case was picked up. The SS196/192 ammo has significantly reduced performance. It's definitely an interesting cartridge, but doesn't seem to be very popular. Gun and ammo scare are coming to an end. 5.7x28mm ammo was available because hardly anyone is using it.

I would say, reconsider the HK P7M8 or M13. I have a friend who had an M8 and sold it to get the M13. It's extremely accurate for such a short barrel handgun. Pic for those that are unfamiliar with the P7.

I almost bought one myself before I did the research. The 5.7 round is identical in performance to a .22 magnum which is WAY cheaper in price so I passed. But if you wanted a P90 as a companion to the pistol... 8) X

I had this thread going at the same time on another gun site. I think the P7 series is the way to go too.

I do not own a FiveseveN, but I have researched them. The only thing that holds me off is cost and no one other than FN making anything for the round. If you have not checked out Elite Ammunition, would recommend to take a look. This video is impressive.

if the 5.7 had a wider range of weapon choices, more aftermarket support and more sources for ammo, id go for it because i think rounds like the 5.7 are the future in short range small arms. however there are a grand total of three weapon types chambered for it (FN carbine and pistol and AR uppers, none of which appeal to me) and a single source for ammo. ive played that game before. try finding brass, bullets, dies or parts for a .295 springer these days.

I don't own one, but I have fired one at the range. What an excellent shooter that pistol is! I also have a friend that has a PS90 and he loves the hell out of that gun too *bastard won't let me shoot it*.

Anywho, they are awesome guns, and a great shooter.

My dad has a Five-seveN, I've shot it and it rocks bro! It is really light and it aims really naturally, and the 20 round mags don't hurt either

i own one and love it, its light an a great shooter, reload a bunch for it and havent had any problems, Elite does make some good stuff its all from 1x fire cases or pulled rounds , think they knock off ten bucks if you seend them 100 1xfire cases to load back up for you

the ps90 is also bad ass, most get it and the p90 mixed up being its full auto

bought dies off of lee had in 3 days ;) standard .224 bullets and small rifle primers, brass is starting to be on GB everyday for decent prices or you can save your brass if you buy new stuff to shoot

im loading Hs7 :) hard to find....31 cents for rounds i buy brass and around 22 cents for any use after that out of cases, these are using vmax and noslers

I shot a P7 today...a K3 chambered for the 22lr. And I got to tell you, that gun is one of the finest guns I have ever held. It's accurate, and had the best trigger I've ever felt...on anything.

I've made up my mind on wanted the P7 series next, I can always get a FiveseveN later on. They are still in production, so I'm in no hurry.

Very cool, I didn't even know there was a .22 version of the P7!

As for the 5.7, I'd be curious to try one, but not at FN's prices. I just can't see why it needs to be priced quite THAT high. I'd like to see Kel-Tec or Hi Point come out with a pistol/carbine combination in the caliber to generate some reasonably priced competition.

For one FN is the only company to use it, they developed the round oh and they are the only company that produces it. It would cost the other companies too much to develop something like that, the round can penetrate top of the line armor yet it doesn't have over penetration issues associated with other bigger calibers, it is the quintessential CQB round.

The guy that developed the 5.7x28 round, the Five-seveN pistol, the P(S)90, and the F(S)2000 was fired from FN because they cost so much to produce and FN was not selling enough of them. Although Saudi Arabia has armed its entire military with the F2000. The F2000 is well underrated by a lot of people even though it is just as accurate if not more so AND easier to maintain than the M4 platform.

The FN FiveSeven is an EXCELLENT handgun, if you have the money, buy it before any other handgun, I guarantee it will outshoot any other pistol. A guy at the range had one, and I got to shoot it, and it was a wonderful gun, being able to nail targets at 100yards with a pistol is awesome. I made arrangements with the guy to meet every weekend at the range for a few weekends, all I had to do was buy ammo, and I could shoot it. They were some of the best weekend I've had at the range.

what size target?

I was hitting paper plates(gotta love the public outdoor ranges, all kinds of random targets), 2 liter bottles, old records, some old die casts cars, and bunch of other stuff only 6-8in across approximately. I can hit a man sized target with a good pistol at a 100 yards, but never shot any handgun as accurate as the Five Seven.

I can do that with what I have now though...
Will what you have now penetrate top of the line body armor at that distance as well?
