They are calling it the 80x. It is a modified Cheetah with a 13 + 1 capacity. Also comes with 10 round magazines for those less free states.

I am glad to see the 380 acp getting some love. I have always been a fan of the cartridge. I will not be running out and buying this pistol though. MSRP is kind of off-putting. I already have the single stack Cheetah and the Browning 1911-380, and the Ruger Security 380 and LCP Max have become my EDC for belt and pocket carry. I am happy with them.

I've been kinda looking at the Ruger Security 380, but can't find much in stock online, everybody else must like it too 👍. Only 380s I currently have are the Bersa Thunder Combat and Duo-Tone Plus. Both have shot well, even though I was having issues with the Combat, it kept failing to eject about twice per mag. I think I fixed it, noticed the ejector seemed slightly bent away from the cartridge so I made a very minor adjustment and it shot well last time out.

The Cheetah is pricey for sure, almost 3X what the Ruger is going for but it appears to be metal (not sure) where the Ruger is polymer.

Well, the 380 has never stopped getting love. Everything from the super micros like Kel Tec's P3AT and the Colt Mustang to the CZ83 and the Bersa Thunder.

I think Beretta is really late to the reinvigorated market. We have the LCP Max for our pocket guns but Beretta is competing against things like the Bersa Thunder PLUS, Grand Power CP380, and the Ruger Security 380.

I dunno. It'll be successful because a lot of people just like Beretta and they like the idea of reviving the Cheetah, but it really feels like an afterthought/"me too!" from Beretta.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

From what I'm understanding, there's a magazine compatible clone of the Beretta Cheetah coming from Turkey (which the new Beretta is not), and there's a near exact clone of the single stack Bersa running around, either from Turkey or the Philippines. I'm very interested in both of those, as a retailer it does me no good to carry a stock of magazines that only fits a single gun - and I don't think it serves my customers well either to put them into a gun that has a proprietary magazine.

The 380 DEFINITELY gets no love from the interweb expurts on SD. ;)

The funny thing to me is....wouldn't it make sense for the competition folks to use .380? I mean, if it weren't as expensive, as it is. But it seems like it would be even more controllable, and thus faster on target, etc.

Minimum caliber is typically 9x19mm in the "practical" competitions.

There are now a few .380 ACP hollowpoint loads that meet some of the FBI criteria - in clear gel, which is not the preferred calibrated testing medium:

Handgun Self-Defense Ammunition - Ballistic Testing Data

That test is now nearly 8 years old, so there may be several improved loads out there meeting the FBI criteria in calibrated gel, likely w/ the XTP bullet. You'll note in the test, almost all of the rounds that penetrated deeply enough failed to expand - and those that expanded consistently, mostly failed to penetrate at least 12" - and we'd really like 14-15" of penetration in clear gel. My usual suggestion to folks w/ .380 is to run FMJ, to get consistent penetration. Plenty of 9x19mm loads that will consistently expand & penetrate 12"+ in calibrated ballistic gel.

It will be interesting if .30 SC gets a toehold, or if .380 ACP takes the reduced recoil SD crown away from it.

Yeah, I wondered if it was simply a rule to stop people from using a perfectly acceptabe SD cartridge to gain an advantage, like the major power factor stuff stops you from using powder puff .45 ACP loads. (y)

Yes, I'm curious about the 30 SC as well....but I think S&W screwed the pooch in how they introduced it.

I don't know. I'm a bit disappointed they didn't incorporate it into their new pistol they just introduced, but I tried the Shield Plus trigger in .30 SC @ SHOT, and if I ditch my Glock 26 and ammo compatibility w/ my snub, then the .30 SC Shield+ wouldn't be a bad way to go. I won't stock it until there's a carbine or someone else uses the same mags (HiPoint?), but I think it could have a future, it'll just take some time til we get out of the ammo crunch, and given that .38 wadcutters are showing up at my distributors, I think we're almost there.

Wondering if they're considering using that for .30 SC? Looks like the mag is a bit deeper than the Tisas clone of the original...
Unmmm……no. Beretta doesn’t give a crap about the 30SC.

They didn't give a crap about .40 S&W either til they realized they could make money on it.
It’s not 1990 anymore, the economy is crap, margins are small, and the corrupt FBI is not using 30 SC, so there’s no authority figure to give it validity.

With the reissue I wonder if my 1991 84F just went up in value?

Cmon @greg_r you know you can do a better gun review than James Reeves, and in your sleep!
Even without the hands on part.
But yes, it's a tasty little nugget and now that 380 double stacks are coming into circulation and Mrs. Mole is talking about carrying now, I'd be inclined to finally dive into the caliber. Much better reason than "I found a couple spent cases on my range" IMO 🤡
