Bernie Sanders calling for a ban on semi automatic firearms

  1. BOULDER, Colorado (TheBlaze/AP) — Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders on Saturday called for a ban on semiautomatic weapons in his second straight day of talking about an issue — guns — where he has sometimes deviated from the Democratic Party’s consensus.

In a campaign appearance ahead of next week’s Democratic presidential debate, Sanders cited two shootings Friday at universities in Arizona and Texas as well as last week’s slayings at an Oregon community college.

“Instead of people yelling at each other, we have got to come together on commonsense approaches which, in fact, the vast majority of the American people support,” said Sanders, who represents a rural state with few gun laws. He added that there is “widespread support to ban semiautomatic assault weapons, guns which have no other purpose but to kill people.”

Sanders supported such a ban along with universal background checks — another measure he called for on Saturday — in 2013, after the massacre at Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School. But the self-described socialist has also voted to allow guns in national parks, to shield firearms manufacturers from liability for shootings and against a five-day waiting period for gun purchases. Many expect him to come under criticism for his record at the first debate on Tuesday.

The comments were similar to ones Sanders made in Tucson on Friday. Otherwise, he focused Saturday on familiar themes, decrying income inequality and the political clout of corporations and the wealthy.

  2. Let me guess Bernie, the body guards that protect you will discard their semi automatic pistols (that likely hold 15 rounds) for six shot revolvers right? Oh, we know that will not happen. You just want to ban American civilian semi automatic firearms.

    These guys are such hypocrites.

Unless they're willing to put $1 million in gold, per citizen, in an escrow account to compensate the survivors of victims of violent crime for the loss of loved ones or to offset financial losses from violent robberies or assaults, whenever police fail to prevent crimes, then they have no moral standing to call for restrictions on any individual to own any firearm he wants.

  5. Might I also add semi automatic firearms are about 67% of all privately owned firearms out there. Almost every pistol is a semi automatic presently.

  6. Simple solution for Bernie, hire enough secret service agents to protect each American 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There is something like 300 million people in the US, that would mean 150 million secret service agents. That way half the population would be armed, and the other half protected, and we could grow government to ridicules proportion.

Biden is one mean sumbich. He knows where all the bodies are buried too. They all acted like Paul Ryan was going to be a great VP. Joe outed him as a RINO. Hopefully he won't go into the speaker race. He needs to go home to Cheddarland and send in Scott Walker for congress.

I kind of like the idea of LTC Allen West as the speaker.

I personally can't see Bernie really going anywhere. The Democrat Party has invested heavily in Hillary, and I think they will want to collect...well, that is unless Biden throws his hat in the ring.

Political parties make me sick...even my own.

I thought we smelled sometime putrid. Boulder is only 17 miles away. That socialist jackass is pathetic. Just like their ideology. Lets make the wealthy pay more. Hmmm, wonder what ole Bernies worth right about now, and how much he's willing to dish out. Those freaking socialists always want to use other peoples money to equalize things. They never say how much their willing to give out of their own pockets. Like if we ever have a socialist society there won't be any more wealthy people? I see stupid people :foilhat:

  16. People like Bernie and the Clintons hide their money in foundations. I think most people know it is a scam.

  19. The reasoning behind banning semi automatics is stupid and faulty. A mass shooter could do a shooting with five different six shot revolvers. If you are out of ammunition, put away or throw that one down and just grab another revolver. Reload when you have time or need to.

This video below demonstrates thirty shots from five different revolvers. Fast forward to 10:45 in the video as I don't think the rest of the video is very good.

  20. We might soon learn if more action is needed to protect our rights in this area. If the Court doesn't take this case up, look for one or more of these 24 states to pass a law to provide for arming it's reserve militia with ARs, AK, etc next year.

"The U.S. Supreme Court could announce as early as Tuesday whether it will hear a challenge to a suburban Chicago law banning firearms commonly known as assault weapons.
If the court agrees to hear the case, it would cast a shadow over similar bans in seven states. But declining to take it up would boost efforts to impose such bans elsewhere, at a time of renewed interest in gun regulation after recent mass shootings."

"The justices on Friday were to consider the appeal in Friedman vs. City of Highland Park. If they refuse to hear the appeal, the announcement could come as early as Tuesday morning. Such a decision would signal that cities have the authority to restrict high-powered weapons."

"The National Rifle Assn. and the chief attorneys for 24 states joined Dr. Arie Friedman of Highland Park and the Illinois State Rifle Assn. in urging the justices to hear the case and to strike down the bans on semi-automatic weapons. They say these weapons are hardly unusual. They include "some of the most commonplace firearms in the nation, including the immensely popular AR-15, which is the best-selling rifle type in the United States.""
