Didn't they get bought out/up a few years back? Quality suffered? Freedom Group, maybe? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Freedom Group got Bushmaster. H&R Marlin and a dakota fire arms. RRA is still free from thats group. The M16/AR15 Course I took was sponsored by RRA and Stag.

I musta been thinking Bushmaster then.

Not being an AR guy, "they all look alike to me" is kinda where I'm at. When I bought my AR (M&P Sport) I had to do a crap ton of research and ask a lot of advice from people who know the platform. I vaguely remember reading that one of the former glory AR makers (musta been Bushmaster) had been acquired and then quality went way down (at least according to some).

    Rumor or truth?

It did go down. When I was at the Remington Factory they talked about it and How they where trying to improve the quality. They had a lot of issues with the plant down south with quality control and basic manufacturing. It was a huge learning curve for them to over come.

That's rich...quality was down, LONG before they built a plant down south.

Not that the southern plant wasn't an issue for them...but the QC issues can't all be blamed on it.

Rock River is/was one of the approved builders for the Utah Staties.

All ARs do look similar... it's that Mil-Spec thingy :p

A majority of "upgrades" are cosmetic as well. I have been finding that
I can really customize for my needs very cheaply. And Moles are CHEAP! :D

I wasn't defending freedom group in any way. They make good and bad guns. Just threw out one of the reasons. :p
