Budget Red Dot for Hi-Point 995TS

7633 Views 25 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  TNTRAILERTRASH
Recently I had been looking for red dot for my newly purchased 995TS. Since I plan to keep my iron sights, the choices are very limited due to the small top rail space. The most often recommended one seems to be the Bushnell TRS-25 plus a 1/2" riser. Together they cost about $90 before taxes presently on Amazon.

Today I tried a different one: a Hiram 1x20mm 4 MOA red/green dot sight package including a high riser and a low profile mount. With the low profile mount, it almost perfectly co-witnesses the stock iron sights. The only fly in the ointment is that it is not a lower 1/3 co-witness.

This thread is to provide an alternative for people who want to install a red dot on their 995TS at a lower price (probably not as good as the TRS-25?). It is listed on Amazon for $28.49 ($29.99 - 5%) today.

Amazon.com: HIRAM Green Red Dot Sight 1x20mm Micro Rifle Scope 4 MOA Reflex Sight with Illuminated Reticle and 7 Brightness Levels, 20mm Picatinny Rail Riser Scope Mount, Waterproof Fogproof Tactical Accessory: Sports & Outdoors

Nothing wrong with absolute co-witness.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

You can always chop your front sight for extra rail space.

How to chop the front of the rear sight? There are two screws there that hold the rear sight.

Correct. I chopped the front sight then drilled and tapped the cover for the front screw. Took almost 3" off the total length. And technically there are 3 screws that hold it on.

Just curious, but could you cut and refinish the front side rails (by the 2 front screws) and put a low profile or 1/2" riser on it, So that theres no need to drill and tap it?

You would need a cantilever mount and a tube type RDS to bring it back far enough to really make it worth not chopping the whole thing.

Ah ok. Makes sense.

Yeah have one, they are great. Also have the sig romeo msr.

Really like them both.

While $100 I would consider cheapish, the Pinty or Fayschi scopes on Amazon get great reviews and I can vouch for the Pinty ones (as of right now). Those are true "budget" scopes.
Decide which one you want then hit the auction sites.
No reason to buy new unless it comes with killer warranty.
I’ve bought red dot sites on eBay used or as ‘new without box’ for significantly less then it would cost new.
Got a holo sight for $50 off at a gunshow as he had it mounted on a display gun.
Had a friendly chat, walked off and came back and he was sold out.
Remembered my friendly face and offered major discount on the mounted one. Hell yeah.
Morale of the story, don’t be an a-hole and you get stuff for less.

Plus there's a HUGE difference, space wise.

I like the See All sights myself - got a few, both the newer tritium version and the original style.

It's kind of like an occluded sight split open - very unique. USA made too unlike virtually every cheap red dot out there now that's made in china.

They're having a half off sale currently
(seem to do it once or twice each year),
most now run about $50 to $100 on sale.

Yes it is. I like mine.

That's about $35-50 off. Depending if you hit a sale on them prior to black Friday.

I got 2 of them from PSA back in the day. Then I got another from MidwayUSA. They were all $99.99

I just ordered two of the new micro styles, one in tritium, $124 all in.
They take a minute to figure out, and they aren't a red dot at all...but no batteries, easy to see, and ready to go without a switch, or a shake, or anything. I like it.
