French MAS 49 or MAS 49/56
Fires the 7.5x54mm French round
You're right--good call. Ammo is hard to come by but some were converted to .308 after import to the US.

What NDS said. The old Fed. Ord. warehouse (in the early 90's) converted a lot of them into 308. They were fairly good rifles if I recall correctly.

I have seen them between 300 and 600 depending on condition, and what they are chambered for.

I have been hunting for a 308 conversion that was done pre-import. I thought I had one, and got sniped :(
