Brand new 4095. Trying to field strip to clean barrel before first firing. Disassembly would be complicated enough compared to other weapons but the two shroud pins and clips are near impossible. Took me an hour to finally rotate the clips initially and scratched up the weapon a few places. After that disassembly went fine. Seemed to reassemble easily enough but, when I went to do function tests I cannot get the bolt to lock back. In fact it is very difficult to get the bolt to slide back at all, requires a great deal of effort.Figured I would disassemble again but cannot get the pins out. They will not depress at all and the clips will not rotate. I'm stuck. Anyone know what to do?

Well that's what you get for not just taking it out and shooting it before you decided you should tear it apart. The carbine isn't the problem... The nightmare is your lack of foresight.

Number one, there is no such thing as a field strip of any hi point firearms. Two. Hi Point themselves say not to clean it but every few thousand rounds. Three. You'll need to give us some more information.

How far did you take it apart? Did you use the handy-dandy IPB from hi point? Put an empty mag in it and see if the LRHO will engage. Otherwise the charging handle is the lockback mechanism for the bolt. Make sure it's on that bolt with the narrower end in because that fits in to the round hole at the end of the slot in the cover.

Those clips will move, you just need to put more ass in to it. Are you using the supplied takedown tool or are you trying to pry on them with something else? Brass or nylon punch and a few taps with a hammer will rotate the clips. Use a flathead screwdriver en lieu of a punch if you don't have the appropriate tools. You've already ruined it with an idiot scratch its not like you have to worry about ruining the finish. Get the cover off, reinstall the charging handle, and function test it again.

The clips are very stiff. I used the factory tool yesterday to take apart a buddy's 4595, took me a few minutes - and then I had to tap out one of the pins w/ the other one b/c the pins were so tight. Once you get the clips open, use a light tap hammer and a punch to lightly tap out one of the pins.

Welcome to the forum, sorry you're having trouble.

I'm not gonna bust your balls, Bob, but welcome. Now, read the manual, then go online and watch disassembly/assembly videos of Hi-Point videos to see what you did incorrectly in taking a HP apart, then reassemble the right way and take your time.

One easy thing to look at and that is the cocking handle. You could of installed it on backwards. Wouldn't be the first to do this. If installed incorrectly, it will lock up and make it seem like the bolt is not working correctly. It'll also scratch and remove the paint within the area too.

In the mean-time, load up the magazine(s) with ammo and give a couple squirts of oil/dry lubricant and let the mag sit loaded, to soften the spring tension.

If it doesn't work for you, you can call MOM (HP customer service) and arrange a return of the carbine to them to fix and test for free. HP has the best warranty in the industry. Just ask what their repair time frame is since they've just come off the holidays and they might be heavily backed up right now and when would be a better time to send in.

The pins are spring loaded. Press on the backside to release pressure on the clips. They should also move freely or with minor resistance. If you need a punch or hammer, not only are you a hack but something isn't seated properly. Start over. The supplied tool should be all you need for a basic breakdown. It's also good for removing Mosin stock bolts. As for it not racking, you were probably pretty pissed by the end and over tightened the charging bolt.

Eh, the new 4595 pins I knocked out yesterday were in so tight from the factory I had to tap em out.

Pull through. That’s how you clean a Hi Point barrel. No need to tear it down.

Don’t take it apart. In fact, the manual used to say to not bother…just brush the barrel every few hundred rounds, then send it to the factory after 1500 rounds and let them do it.

Welcome to the site OP. They are not that difficult to take apart, if you watch a video on the subject. I wrote down the steps completely, while watching the video, and didn't have any issues with my 995TS....after I had ran at least 400-500 rounds through it.

Really, they mostly just need swabbing out and the bore punched, most of the time anyways.
