Just started playing with a mold I bought off E-Bay to cast #4 buckshot and am getting decent results using pure lead, but since my supply of pure lead is very limited, I got to wondering if it would be a good idea to cast it with wheel weight alloy. I know that our very own Silicon wolverine casts his own double aught, so I thought I might be able to get some input from my esteemed colleagues here.

What do you think?

I have a 00 buck shot mold that I got from SW, and it works just fine with wheel weights.

Thanks guys, now I can save my pure lead for other projects. If I figure out a way to test the difference in terminal perfomance between the two I will post my results.

Pure lead is better suited for casting round ball for muzzle loaders.

terminal results for pure lead wil be much poorer as the pure lead shot will deform in the barrel from the forces of firing while WW lead will not, resulting in better patterns.
