Non-military, but I think ages 0 to 15 spent in on the Ulster Front-side of Belfast in the 80's qualifies me otherwise :p

I am a cheap bastid: RIA 1911. Only custom thing done was ad a pachmyr rubber wrap around grip to it. I plan on Wolf recoil spring, bobbed hammer and matching grip safety till I decide to change weapons.
Nothing wrong with the Rock, I can afford differnt, but my rock is 100% I shoot it well, and being a big guy, it conceals well. +1 on the pachmyr wrap around, after seeing the pic of yours, I ordered one, tried it, and fell in love............

Ex Navy here.

My primary CCW is a Taurus PT111 Millennium Pro 9mm. Recently picked up a Charter Arms Bulldog 2.5" five shot in .44 Special and have found that it carries as well as the Taurus and is even lighter, just need a good holster for it and I will be set.

What do I carry!

Here goes!
I'm a cop not ex military. I carry a 4inch springfield xd 40 on duty. Off duty I carry a 3 inch springfield xd 40 when I where something that allows me to have my concealed on my hip. If I have my gun in the small of my back, I carry an Astra A70 9mm (1911 clone single action only) one in the pipe and decocked. If I carry that pistol on my hip, then it is cocked and locked! For the record, I am not a gun snob! I will use and shoot just about anything. I like Hi-points a lot. I think for the money they are hard to beat. I previously carried the Glock 22 on duty and a 27 off duty and after throwing over 4000 rounds down range in each, never had a ftf or a jam. I traded them in for the springfield because I have very small hands and the xd has a little less spread between my grip and trigger finger (about 3/8 inch). It is just more comfortable. I did have to give up mag capicity for this trade off. 15 down to 12. Also for the record, I have yet to have a round FTF or jam in either of my xd's, I have put approximately 750 rounds through each. The question I have to ask myself is this... do I have the confidence in my c-9 to carry it as a concealed or backup weapon? The answer is no. While it is a nice gun, I do not "Personally" have the confiendce in it! Now before everyone here starts bashing me, I said I "personally" don't have the confidence in it. You might. Also I would rather have my c-9 versus nothing or a bat or knife or some other primitive weapon. I have only had my c-9 for less than a month and have only put approximately 200 rounds through it on 2 different trips to the range and I have yet to have a trip without at least one FTF/jam. This last trip, I only had one out of 100 rounds after I did the "fluff and buff" on the feed ramp. I think the more I shoot it the better the gun will get and I will gain more confidence in using it as a backup/concealed weapon.

Welcome CAN IT - it does feel like home to many of us too.

thehop - only 200 rnds through the C-9, no way that would make my carry list either at this point. BUT, where I'm at on mine, I'd carry it no issues. Thanks for the good run down and back ground info!

I hear ya'- I don't dig the Glock feel either- small hands here too. I really like the S&W M&P - works great for my hands, without giving up your rounds. 17+1

Oh and I carry more 'in car' and in my pack concealed. I don't carry a lot on foot. If i do, its my Hi Standard Derringer Wallet pistol -or- P-11

I carry a Sig P228. 15 rounds of 124 grain +P Double Tap goodness.

Maybe it's just me, but the military / non military question reminds me of the "Race" question on certain questioners. Won't answer it. No offense to the OP.

Just started carring. Between the HP C-9 in fobus holster or the PF-9 IWB elite holster. Depends on the clothing and weather, of course.

Yep, that by far has been the best improvement so far. That, and the Fobus paddle are my first attempts at CC carry for myself. Yep, I am a huge by large dude myself, and that slim 1911 will conceal well...
