charging handle problem

Discussion in 'Hi-Point Carbines' started by MotoMel, Dec 2, 2019.

  1. Just finished cleaning my 995TS and now the charging handle does not stay back when I pull it back. What did I mess up?? Advice requested please.

I think overtightening the handle will do that. Make sure you've got an empty magazine in it too when pulling back.

So when you put an empty magazine in the mag well, and jack the Breach Block / Charging Handle back as far as you can, hold it for a short second, then let go, what happens?

The handle is probably on backwards or too tight or both.

OK. So how did you clean it? Did you take any of it apart?

What they really mean to ask is, "how far down did you strip it?" We have seen many newbies tear them down further than they should and screw things up.

Sometimes it is as simple as putting the charging handle knob on backwards.

Did you try the empty mag yank yet?

Is the mag fully seated? If so, try another mag...

How does one put the charging handle on backwards?

To me, the handle is the one part you pull back. Perhaps it includes a slew of other parts. The FFL who received my 4595TS assembled it for me.

Can the Charging handle go on the right side of the receiver? My left hand is a tad weak; and trying to work it left handed has proven awkward and difficult.
    • The only location I saw looked way too small
    • What are the issues that suggest leaving the handle on the left side
    Thanks,

    DJ

Putting it on the right side there is no rounded out hole to put the charging handle into to hold the bolt open. I put mine in on the right when I bought it new. The shroud stopped it from going all the way back. Larger custom handles make it easier. https://www.downrangeproductsco.com/

The other normal backward is to flip the knurled rolling bit around, so the narrower bit that fits inside the hole to lock it open is on the outside.

  14. thanks y'all, not a problem any longer
