This is Comet One,

I am a newbie to Hi-point, I have purchased a JCP 40 and
a 9C.
I found the JCP 40 easier for me to handle then the C 9. I am a
old man with weak hands. The JCP 40 having a longer barrel , has
longer recoil spring and heavier slide, making gun easier to rack.

I like both guns very much.

My question ... How do you clean the magazines?

Does bottom plate come off?

Most of the magazines that I have cleaned, the bottom plate comes
off. Also, I know how to clean the 1911 magazines where you push
the follower down and trap the spring with a punch and then shake
the follower out.

I know this is probably been asked many times but I could not
find info.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

With the HP mags you have to take them apart from the top by tilting the follower and pulling it out.
It's a bit of a pain at first but once you do it you'll have it down. ;-)

And just a note on cleaning mags, I use a non water based Silicone to lube them after cleaning.
I find it to be better than oil because it still gives it plenty of lubrication while not letting any dirt or grime attach itself to the inside of the mag like oil does. ;-)

i use compressed air and a product called "FI air intake cleaner" made by MAG products, its plastic safe and does a bang up job. no need to disasemble.

go to walmart get a can of powder blast blast out the gun and mag you won't have a need to take the gun or the mag down to clean or oil oil it. now i would recomend takin the gun down atleast one time every year to inspect it but other than that just hit it with the powder blast and then lightly oil it and it's good to go.same with the mag. now if your in a humide and salty enviroment like me i recoment heavy oil. but if your in a dry dusty area then lightly oil.

from the top, do you push down on the rear of the follower so the
front comes up?

Also, do you have the name of the product th you use after cleaning
magazines?

Ever heard of this for cleaning your 995 and magazines? I love mine but just don't have the time for breaking it down to clean it.

Would love to hear some real world, everyday cleaners (names please)that I can pick up easily. I need to maintain the weapon but do it effectively and efficiently. Thanks for any help!

This could be the power blast product he spoke of. I've used liquid break-free before (good stuff) but not the power blast.

powder blast is in a aresol can and is sprayed out through a tube like wd40 you then let the gun set til it dry's because it evaporates in a few minutes . the gun will get really cold after that you can oil it up as you wish.this stuff blast out everything in every little crack and crevice.

What I do is get a small screwdriver under the front of the follower and pry up. From there it's a matter of manipulating it back and forth a bit till it comes out. Kinda hard to explain here, but it's not too hard really.
Most of the time however I do as some of the others mentioned and use Powder Blast by Break Free to wash it out. And then I use "Sprayon" silcone spray that I get from Graingers. But I've used other silcone sprays before. Just make sure they aren't "water" based for food processing use.
I don't take it apart everytime like my guns since it doesn't get very dirty using the silicone. So I'll only take my mags apart about 2 or 3 times a year for thorough cleanings. And that's after going to the range 1 or 2 times a month. ;-)

i second the spray oil i use the remington spray oil in the aerasol can that has the teflon in it ait comes with a little tube and you can really get it into them tight places . i give it a quick shot in all the pivot points and maybe one or two on the slides as for as the mags i just shoot it in through the side holes. as long as the break free is running out clean you know the gun and mag is clean .

Well, I figured out how to remove follower. Actually, it was not
too difficult. There is onlyone way it can come out.

The hard part was putting the follower and spring back in.
I came to the conclusion that you had to push spring down into
magzine and retain it down with a punch while you put follower
back in. Since the peep holes in the magazine are only on one side,
it was very difficult.

Again too, you are correct, magazines do not get that dirty.

I am going to go with sprays.

i never noticed who made it either . til i went check. i just seen it one day and tried it and never looked back it worked so good. i used to take my guns down before i came across this stuff. it's a good thing to pack in a b.o.b for a quick clean on the go . i here brake cleaner works just as good to . i wanna goto walmart and c get bth cans next to each other and compare the ingredients you never now when they change a name and bump up a price just to make money. so brake cleaner and powder blast just might be one in the same. i know for a fact that after useing both one on brakes and the other on guns they both have the same affect on grime and they both get cold and evaporate and they both smell the same???? so before you go buy some powder blast comapare the two inside the store they just might be the same.i think brake cleaner is a few dollars cheaper plus it might come in a bigger can."i think"

i dont reccomend using powder blast because it is not listed as plastic safe on the can. ive had solvents like that melt magazine bases before. try it on a non critical chunk of plastic before you use it.

it never hurt any plastics on my guns .the pistol grips om my ak/the foregrips on my m4 the stock on my m4 the mags for my glock /my glock/my taurus. i have hogue grips on my keltec and my glock and it never done anything to them. not to mention my whole keltec su2000 is plastic .it should be good to go. i even got some over spray on my computer keyboard and it didn't hurt that .i would 99.9%say it's plastic safe.

Ya I've been using Break Free products for quite some time now and never had any issues with any of my plastic parts. And I have a few Kel Tecs to test it on. ;-)

it should be ok to use on plastic because it sprays out of a plastic tip on the can,
