Cleaning schedule

Hey guys, I've had my 4595TS for quite a while, and run a crap-load of rounds through it. I usually run a brush and oily patch and then a clean patch through it every time I shoot it, and clean inside the ejection port with 3-in-1 covered Q-tips, but I've never disasembled it for a thorough cleaning. I guess it's about time for a disassembly. How often do you guys do this?

Every time I shoot mine it gets fully disassembled and cleaned. A dirty gun never goes into my safe.
I've read the manual and it says I don't need to bother cleaning it until I hit 1500-2000 rounds. But personally I'm just OCD enough to want to clean it after every outing.

Just curious, but what do you all use for cleaning?

I've got some CLP, but right now I am using Ballistol and a boresnake.

I thought I remembered seeing that somewhere. I'm probably at the upper end of that range right now and it still goes bang every time, but everything has a limit.

I'm like you guys with everything else... Shoot it, break it down, clean it, put it away. But with the Hi-Point, I just never did a thorough cleaning.

As far as what I use, Hoppe's or 3-in-1, a cheap copper brush no name cleaning kit, and some patches. It's worked for me the last 30 years or so with no observable ill effects.
You're supposed to clean these things!?!?! WHAT!! Go figure...
After each outing I snake mine with one pass with a some Pro7 oil (gun counter guy recommended it). Done.

But I have not hit any of the high mileage marks. I just have the basic black 995ts (could not afford the two-tone, chrome or other upgrade models that might need a better PM schedule). It turns over just fine in the winter and no pinging or hesitation when I hit the gas. Will get some B&G when the time comes. :D
When it comes to my HiPoints :
I just run a bore snake down the barrel a few times and wipe the muzzle off most of the time .
Can't say I haven't tore them down but it was more just curiosity .
Cleaning

I rarely clean my barrels in any of my rifles unless they shoot cast lead bullets. Sport shooters only clean their barrels when their accuracy begins to be affected and no more. I'm not worried about my accuracy but with good clean domestic ammo there shouldn't be a lot of carbon buildup in a barrel.

The action is where I do all my cleaning in most rifles, that's where malfunctions start. But in a blowback like a High Point it's at least 1k rounds before I start thinking about a disassembly. 'Dirty' ammo like Wolf steel case can deposit a lot more crud.

I treat my blowback carbines like my AKs, just a dab of CLP on the bolt face, extractor & feed ramp after every range trip. Maybe once a year or so I'll tear them down for an inspection & cleaning if needed. But like an AK I'll bet you could run an HP without cleaning til it failed, and the failure probably won't be carbon buildup.
I follow the 3 s plan

Spray, snake, slick.

About the only rifles I break down regularly are my milsurps.
I scrub and scrub but I've never seen a clean patch outta a mosin

I do however, do an initial breakdown and clean. Shoulda seen the metal flakes in my 795

take the barrel and action off, hose down liberally with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, follow immediately with boiling water, scrub with murphy's oil soap, more boiling water, scrub, boiling water. When done, use a hair dryer to dry the parts then re-oil everything. Might want to wax the outside of the barrel with johnson's paste floorwax first.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk
I just finished the break down and clean on my 4595TS. It was a lot easier than I thought. It was about the same difficulty as my M1 carbine that I clean every time I shoot. Surprisingly, the only really dirty place was the firing pin assembly. Everything else was not so bad.

I can see why HP recommends cleaning the barrel every time, but only recommends a complete cleaning every 1500 rounds or so. Unless you are using corrosive ammo, there's not much there to foul up that a can of WD-40 wouldn't get back up and running with one squirt.

Actually, the only problem I ever had was a fired round that slipped the extractor because of carbon buildup in the chamber from a box of dirty Tula.
About every 1000 rounds ill break it down. Spray a crap load wd40 threw it. Wipe down n then re-oil with synthetic chain lube. Wipe the excess off n good to go
