Well, I finally broke down and bought a set of these to add to the collection.

Initially I was against buying them as they'd be the only non original milsurp cans in my ammo stash, but at twenty bucks for a pair of brand new cans, I felt they were worth a shot.

In my area M19A1 cans are hard to find for under ten bucks, and M2A1 cans are usually around twelve bucks or more, so the price is right for the pair.

Seem well built and are brand new with new seals that will absolutely not leak and the hinges and handles look good and feel sturdy.

Might be worth a look to check out if you need some cans.

What do you mean, "not mil-surp"?
They look like un-issued, but could be Chinese...
    GREAT BUY!
    I'd be "backing_up_the_TRUCK!!!"

From what I've read elsewhere, they are lighter guage than milsurps, but not too thin, and being new, they have new seals, no dents, etc. They say the 50 is a P109 can, the fat 50, a normal M2 can will fit inside these.

Good price, IMHO, even if they are Chinese.

Gonna go to Costco near here Monday. These are not in the online store, so I don't know what the specs are. Hope this store may have some to look at.

I have been getting a few NEW 50cal from a friend of mine in Milwaukee area.
No markings on them, but they all had remnants of a whitish or reddish colored powder inside. All were the same size and weight as old 50cal ones I got from my army days many decades ago. I think he may have said the guy he got them from
told him his company buys some items that are shipped in these.

I gotta check and see if anymore are available there. He brings them down to me when he is in this area working. Always either $10 or $11 each. But I need a couple of 30cal right now.

I saw the new Chinese ammo cans on Alibaba for $8-$9 each,
regardless of size, but minimum order was 500 cans...
If we could get a Group Buy going, :D Think of the SAVINGS!
Not much less than the CostCo deal, but I could use a few
    "FAT FIFTY" ammo cans!

Costco is real? I thought it was just something from that Idiocracy movie.

    Yup, they be chicom units.

    Guilty. I feel so dirty.;)

I'll have to check the 50 can, I didn't notice if it was one of the fat fiddy's.

I will admit that they are of decent quality, I'll have to compare the wall thickness between my USGI cans as well as the weld quality.

No matter what, they are absolutely more stout and durable than a Plano plastic can in my opinion.

Oh yeah they're real. I love me some Costco samples, I usually make a couple rounds by the sample ladies and call it lunch!:p

I have a couple of the "fat 50" cans and a half dozen 30 caliber cans. I imagine they are older than I am! Mine were handed down or purchased at the now defunct Army Slurplus store in my old home town. They can not be beat for quality.

My "go to" cans though are the Plano plastic cans. I keep my stash of 22 long rifle in a couple, plus I use them to store any ammo that I load in bulk. I have had no issues with them.

I'm pretty sure that the Costco 50cal can is an M2A1 can. I did a little pokin' around on the 'net and found this image. I didn't realize that the "fat fifty" was actually a SAW can for linked 5.56.

I still have the Costco cans sitting on my bench, while the rest of my USGI cans are locked away in my ammo stash.

Later this morning I'll see about pulling out some real USGI cans and comparing the two. I'm certain the costco can is a standard 50 cal can though.

Last time I picked up my stash of .22 the bottom fell out of my Plano can. I have since moved to a metal can

    Me Too!
    :p for AJOLE! :p

    Loose Rounds or Boxes?
They hold twice as much if you take them
out of the standard boxes with dividers...

2000 rounds of loose 22 is a DISASTER!

I'm still finding loose .22 a year later...

A mix of loose boxes, devided boxes and bulk packs.
A 555 box of Winchester spilled everywhere

There was 3k in it at the time

So you had 3000 packed in THIS Size?

I do not use those for 22 LR, just in case!

Let's just say I'm good at tetris...

Yeah it looks like it was about that size, about the same size as a 50 can, but that was a year ago. I found menards had a good deal on some zombie can for $7 a while back and swapped all of my loose 54r into it from an actual BMG can. All my .22 went into a steel can from then on

Let's just say that if I needed a properly rated pickup truck for all
my ammo, I'd need an F350 Diesel to haul it all at once :llama: ;) :llama:
