Crime-plagued property owner kills intruder
Officers say case appears to be self defense.
Posted: 6:22 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015

A Dayton woman targeted by criminals at least five times in 11 years fatally shot a man she said broke into her home Wednesday morning, the second intruder she has hit with gunfire in about two years.

Yes they do. They learn that there are normally no consequences for their crimes. This, and the first kid shot in the arm are the exception.

What bothers me about that story is that he managed to jump down and run down the street before expiring.
People still have a lot of flight and fight in them even after getting a fatal gunshot wound.

It wasn't a question, more of an observation how the one-shot-stop immediate incapacitation expectation still lingers.

Don't most gunshot victims bleed to death? How far can a deer run before expiring with a fatal gunshot wound?
I've had deer run over a hundred yards with the whole lower half of its heart destroyed...

Watching TV and movies, it is easy to get the idea that people get shot and fall over dead almost immediately, with very little blood. I would guess that in real life, the fight or flight response would kick in and there would be considerable activity before expiration.

The article doesn't say where the shot was placed. :)
The two critical factors are the round used and shot placement. I've seen people shot numerous times that didn't bleed out, and I've seen people shot with a single round that were DRT. ;)

But I agree that most people don't understand that even someone who has been shot can still be a lethal threat to you.

No, but it's frightening to consider how much fight he could have put up had he decides not to flee.
Keep shooting till the threat is no longer a threat comes to mind.
But the media will go 'overkill' if you empty a mag.

That's where fight or flight comes in. If you have someone already jacked up on adrenaline and shoot them and the f or f kicks in and they decide to fight, you better keep shooting!

My instructor taught me to keep shooting until my target stayed down.

And, never 'shoot to wound'.

Wound a person and he/she may draw a weapon and kill YOU.

Well shoot till the threat stop being a threat.
So if he turns and runs after being shot just once that's stopping the threat.
Shooting when the bad guy is already fleeing is a no-go.

Or, they are yelling that they are coming back to kill you, your whole family and the neighbors.

I take those threats seriously.
