how bad is it to dry fire your pistol once in a while because i noticed well when your done at the range and it locks back and you slide it back and your ready to put it away it is cocked so you have to dry fire it is there anyway around that and if not how bad is it to dry fire it time to time and what exactly is it that makes dry fireing bad?

unless you sit there cocking and fireing the gun repeadely your ok with a dry fire here and there. after i clean my guns i work the action and then right before i pick it up i dry fire it to take the tension off the spring and then i put her back into the closet.

Yes, that does work. Dry firing isn't really that bad on your gun. Don't do it to a rimfire though.
