Out of curiosity, anyone on this board ever actually been evacuated to a public shelter... do they search your bags for guns and ammo? Was just curious... I imagine you have to sacrifice your right to privacy when you accept shelter in a public place no?

Never had to but I suspect that most shelters post that no weapons are allowed. Not that they would be able to search everyones stuff. Personally I have other evac plans that would keep me from being forced into a shelter.

I actually have served in shelters in Maine as a radio operator. They are mostly in schools or public buildings so the law works out as no weapons allowed. If you need to go to a shelter and you drive yourself in your own vehicle leave the weapons in the car but locked up out of sight.
