What is the best footwear for survival?

I've always thought it would be a lace up high top boot 10" for me as my ankles have always been somewhat weak.

But, I can see the merits of a softer shoe or, moccasin.

What say ya'll...?

I keep a pair of waterproof, insulated, pull-on, muck-style hunting boots in the truck with a pair each of nylon dress, cotton sport, and heavy boot socks.

I also stomp around in full leather upper, square steel toe, non-slip, work soled cowboy boots from Ariat all day every day.

I've hunted and walked great distances over some extremely challenging terrain in both.

I would imagine it depends on your ao. Here, I have muck boots that I'm betting are the exact same ones rach has, by I only use those when I'm working in lots of mud and or water. They are great and serve their purpose well, but I wouldn't want to wear them all day every day. Your feet still get wet- just with sweat. Which is better than muddy and wet, but still. Plus they lack in the ankle support department. I have big ol steel toed insulated leather logging boots for cold weather- Georgia loggers- and lighter uninsulated ones for summer.
I guess which ones I'd grab if we are in a bug out situation would probably be the Georgia loggers. If we bug out it would be deep into the woods. We haven't made a solid plan yet though.

Oh yeah! Your loggers reminded me that I forgot about my third pair of boots. Globe waterproof, leather, heavily insulated, non-conductive, reinforced shank, armored sole, armored toe- cap, armored shin, pull-on structural firefighting boots...

P.S. I have big flippers...

Probably 8-10 inches, Norwegian welt, Vibram sole. Mine are 8” Packer style, so they have stacked leather cowboy style heels and speed lacer hooks.

4-6 inch hikers make some sense. Lighter, comfortable. Not much good at keeping crud out if it gets serious. Gaiters can help. But those are the most worn boots I have. One pair is a glued sole, one is sewn.

8-10” are better at keeping stuff out, and adding support.

Gore-Tex or other waterproofing can be good. Or bad.

My dad literally lived in 8 inch Whites smoke jumpers. I have a picture of him going swimming, wearing those boots, a tie die T-shirt and a 1970’s swim suit. At 5’4, those were the equivalent of 10” boots for most of us. Just leather, with boot grease. Lasted for years, got rebuilt and lasted more years.

Depends on the individual. I have various boots but I try to stick with a water proof insulated tie up boot here. Now I'm using Tru Spec boot. In wet hot areas down south jungle type boots for me.

I'm within the city limits of Houston.
It's about 35 miles to reach the suburbs from here.

I keep my truck filled as much as possible - we have 10 gallons rotated bimonthly stored.

10 gallons of what? Water, gas, beer?

I'm half a block from city limits. We are on the last street on this side of town. Rail road property after that for a mile every night the deer come down my street. We have rabbits galore here. I have 5 or 6 living under my deck alone. Geese in the river behind me. And turkeys which if you want them to stay just feed them. They are easy to train to stay. But thats a shit show if they do. They scratch up vehicles.

Daily wear are 8" 5.11 ATAC lace up side zip. I need the support in the kitchen. I don't have a specific BO/survival boot but I have a set of Wolverine riding boots for when I'm on the bike and a pair of CAT T1260 steel toe just for knockin' around. None of which could be considered a 'survival' boot but the CATs could qualify although they are low cut.

Rachgier,

didn't you just have a photo loaded here where the boots you were wearing have a side strap?

eldar
My fire boots which are actually my cold weather boots have pull straps for obvious reasons. My cowboy boots also have the traditional pull straps on them.
My old Globe wildland boots were speed lace, side zips with pull straps as well. Somehow I couldn't find them when I moved out. Nobody in the house could wear them. I wear a size 14 wide...

This makes me wonder what you're internet searching is all about. Not judging but damn.
