A few weeks ago I posted about lusting over a Star M43 Firestar. Yes, the pistol is still at the LGS, at least as of yesterday morning, and no I (obviously) did not buy it. I think the wait that life forced on me let me come to my senses. I already have 2 all metal 7 + 1 9mm’s. The KAHR K9 and the Kimber Micro 9. As much as I like the M43, it is really just a redundancy.

What I don’t have is a duty size 9mm. Always wanted a Beretta 92, or it’s South American counterpart, The Taurus PT92. Both are out of stock at the distributors my LGS checked for me.

There is a lot of love for the CANiK pistols on this forum. I have been reviewing the METE pistols. Lots of love for these it seems. I do like the META SFx. Just not a real fan of plastic pistols.

The Ruger American Competition is another I am looking at. While it is plastic, the plastic is nothing more than glorified grips. It is built around a stainless steel chassis. I have one in 9mm, the compact version. I also have the duty size, but it’s in 45 acp. The Ruger also comes in some $50 below the CANiK. That will allow me to purchase an American pistol insert and I would have commonality between my American Pistols and my PC Carbine, and would still have enough left over to buy a Fishermans Platter at the local fish house. ( still sort of miffed at Ruger for making a Ruger insert an add on, while making the GLOCK insert a standard item ).

Pretty sure that I am going to let the LGS order the American Pistol Competition for me tomorrow. If for no other reason than it will compliment my PC Carbine. But I am going to throw this out there just in case someone wants to convince me why I should buy the CANiK over the Ruger. Come on CANiK lovers, convince me! Let’s have some fun!

I have a Beretta 92FS, got it after a discussion on here a couple years back. I think ajole convinced me to get it plus it was a good deal from Classic and looked brand new. Also have the smaller (not full size) Canik TP9SF.

Both have excellent triggers as far as I'm concerned. The Beretta is all metal, and is thicker than the Canik, probably due to capacity. Not sure of the differences between my TP9SF and the METE.

I like them both:

As a canik guy. I would go with the Ruger. Simply because it compliments your other weapons. And Ruger makes good guns.

I think the Canik is a better gun but if I was you I'd go Ruger.

Gotta agree with Moonz, your play should be the Ruger.

In my duty size weapons, I’m an oddball. I have a G20 in 10 mm, obviously. And a G22 with .40 or 9 mm barrels. A Ruger SR40 and SR9. And last but not least, the glorious Remington RP9. 18+1, such a sexy beast, almost zero aftermarket support, and COMPLETELY hated by the gun media. Cost me $200 new, and has been 100% reliable. Which is good since….Remington.🙄
I have friend that has a S&W 39-2 for sale. 9mm, 7+1.
You're a Ruger guy. Go with the Ruger.
I was a Spencer for Hire fan so I always kinda wanted a Hi Power or a Beretta but I've always been too cheap.

For this thread... the Ruger.

Ruger had to attempt to copy the Canik METE. The TP9Combat Elite has a better trigger than both of them. Threaded 4.73" Salient match grade CHF nitride barrel. Nickle plated trigger guts, and the trigger are the Schiz. I am going to take my METE SFx, and the Combat Elite for a side by side comparison really soon.

The aftermarket for Canik is growing by leaps and bounds. Yep, mags are hard to come by.

Greg,

I have another hat to throw in the ring. It is made in Turkey but it ISN'T a Canik...The Girsan Regard MC.

It is a Berretta 92FS. Steel frame, no Poly, reliable and gets great reviews.

I own one and LOVE it. Before I purchased it a few years back I read a ton of reviews and most people actually said that Girsan did a better job with the pistol than Berretta. The Turks can build one heck of a firearm.

So yes, I know you have it down to Ruger or Canik Meta but I would take a look at the Girsan Regard also. Gave you a link to a decent price and they seem readilly available.

Also, you can never go wrong with a 1911 or a CZ. Both are stalwarts and will serve you well for a full size steel pistol - but 9mm in 1911 just doesn't sit right with me lol.

Hard for me to choose from your two options as both are nice... but Ruger is my vote if I am confined to those two (for a full size).

It shoots Beautiful too TNT. I absolutely love it!!!

What finish is on the frame? I am tossing money into a Cummins right now. Plus ammo. I indulge in shooting mass quantities.
Nitride I believe, wears nice. Still looks new and its 3 years old? Yeah I haven't put 3000 rounds through it either but I would say at least 1000, it comes to the range with me more often than not.

Friend of mine bought one of these a few months ago. Smoothest slide I've ever felt on a pistol, yet no slop to the frame. Shoots very well too. He told me most Beretta parts fit, except the barrel. The price is crazy reasonable.

Talking about the Remington R-9. I really wanted an R51 just because of the unique Pedersen design. They're hard to find now.
