I've come to really like the 5.7 but I just really don't see much of a point in a 5.7 carbine. There's, literally, almost no reason at all for it. The 5.56 is superior in every way and is better suited for a carbine length than the 5.7.

Literally, the only reason I can think of that you might want to do this is to share ammo. But even then, unless you are using the same magazine, I still don't think it's a good enough reason.

The 5.7 has a niche where it really shines. But I just don't think the carbine length is that niche, regardless of what FN tried with the p90.

Sharing ammo is why I had AR pistols. HAD is key.

I think we need better affordable 5.7 carbines. (SBR'd PS-90 don't count.) Say, a Savage-style delayed blowback, with a light barrel and stock, would be better than the other 5.7 carbines compared to ARs.

We already have them, but usually in a more powerful cartridge that shoots heavier bullets.😉. We call it the AR.

As Kirk was intimating, the 5.7 was absolutely NOT designed for a rifle/carbine length barrel, it really gains nothing from the longer barrel. They designed it for a handgun and a VERY short 10.3” barreled SBR. If you want a carbine, get the 5.56 AR and you will get FAR more terminal energy out of even the lightest bullets. Then load it up with 60 round coffin mags or 50-100 round rotary mags, and laugh at the AR57 guys with their puny 50 round mags.😀

But the recoil is horrendous in the 5.56

Somebody ought to gift Kirk with a Lorcin L9. I'm certain he has space in his gun safe.

To be honest, I have been kind of wanting one for years. Just always decide to spend my money elsewhere.
