Well played, sir.
It does make sense - you've already got the strength of the machete blade to replace the hatchet handle, it doesn't take much much more space than a traditional machete, and you get a hatchet and a saw out of it.
I'm thinking if you seriously use the machete, however, your paracord wrapped hatchet handle will be shredded all to hell by whatever you're macheting. A pair of those would make for versatile melee weapons.
