    Not really.

They won in 1939 as well.:D

They ran a supercharged 500 cc bike, actually 2 of them, they placed 1 and 2.

BMW won cross country rally races a lot in the 70's-90's, but they weren't doing much road racing in the last 40+ years, until just recently.

    I laughed, until I threw up a little...

  10. I'll have to read up on this race. I haven't paid attention to the IOM race in a few years, but with BMW winning I've regained interest in it.

Back in the late 80-ies early 90-ies the Dunlop brothers were just dominating if I remember correctly.
Not factory riders just the English version of good ol' boys running their bikes flat out.
Fatalities almost every year back in those days.
That's some serious racing with only hay bales in the turns.

there's no more BMW dealer in my area anymore and not many folks will work on them around here so getting one wouldnt be very sensible. altho i'd love to have an ol airhead.

In the town parts of the course, it's just a curb and a wall, no hay bales, no padding.

    Serious racing.

If you got an "old" airhead, you can do it all yourself. The newer stuff, not so much.:(

When I was doing cylinder head porting, I did an old set of knuckle heads IIRC.
The owner was an outlaw biker, loved my work! Better than a set of aftermarket heads he had bought, but I am thinking it was a case of
"bigger is better" thinking gone wrong... maybe.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of reading up on them on my biker forums. They are a lot easier to work on before fuel injection came along. But their still hard to find in decent shape close by.

All the oil they leak would wipe the others out; allowing them t win by default. :p :D

That's why BMW riders won't follow Harley's, if the oil doesn't get you, the parts falling off will.:D

But really, Harley is making a good bike these days. Overpriced and a bit obnoxious in some ways, especially in the way one must dress to be allowed to ride one.:p

A buddy of mine's girlfriend rides a Harley, and everytime they go on long rides she has to stop at EVERY Harley shop along the way.
He says HD doesn't stand for Harley Davidson, it stands for Hundred Dollars; because everything she buys for her bike costs a hundred dollars: battery, oil change, etc.

I have to wonder if all that chrome is like a tanning booth for Harley riders, reflecting all that sunlight back onto them
