Went to the range today for some practice. They have about 30 stations for pistols that end with a building that separates the public from the Law enforcement only range http://www.hotwellsshootingrange.com/pistol.htm (the fees have been changed).

Anyways, I was 3 stations from the building at 21'. As most of you know a lot of folks will go out and bring both pistols and rifles so it's not at all unusual to see folks shooting pistols with rifle cases behind them.

So I'm standing in my lane and hear these incredibly loud blasts to my right in the 2 lanes next to the building. I'm thinking "What the H*** caliber is THAT?"!!!!!!!! I look over and there are two Oriental guys (I'm NOT prejudiced!) shooting .12 gauge SHOTGUNS!!!!!! I stepped back and within seconds the range guys come over and try to explain to them that this was a pistol ONLY range. They spoke little English and tried to argue that since they were shooting slugs it qualified as pistols?!?!?!!??!?!?

Next thing you know we had a handfull of law enforcement escorting them out.

Whew!

Lets see if I have this straight, you shoot the pistols at the pistol range then you pick up and move to the rifle range? is that correct? or can you shoot both pistol and rifle at the same station?
Do they not have a range for shot guns?

I've been to Hot Wells. They have pistol and rifle ranges, and if memory serves me, an area for skeet/ trap shooting. I don't think there is another range for shotguns other than that. White_Russian, have you been to Shiloh Shooting? It's smaller, but indoor and reasonably priced. Main problem is that you can only shoot brass casings. Send me a PM; maybe we can meet up sometime to practice.

I'm glad that the range masters removed them. That's just DUMB.

I've seen that at the indoor pistol range (pistols and rifles in pistol caliber) I go to. But it was a AR 15. The customer said it was a .22 rifle, so they could shoot it on the .22 range The range was shut down while the backstop was repaired.

Yes, the ranges are completely separate. Skeet, rifle/shotgun and pistol. Just on the other side of the pistol range (building) is a dedicated range for law enforcement and it just so happened yesterday that they were out in full force. It's fun to watch them when they are doing the target changes on the pistol range.

vinas74 - I've not yet been to Shiloh but know right where it's at, I'm in Cypress so it's close. I used to go play the par 3 course at night that's right over there. I'll PM you and would be happy to meet up.
