I gotta be honest...I'm seriously getting worried the direction we're heading here in the US. I wish I had the will power to just not pay attention to the news or anything else. Things like this cash for clunkers deal may not seem like much but to me it seems like one more step towards socialism, now we're paying to buy peoples old cars, the government is running GM, soon we'll have nationalized health care, they've already got a big hand in the major banks, the government is growing at an alarming rate. I have never been a big political person before but how can you not pay attention to what is going on now?? This really bothers me. Someone please talk me back off the ledge here.

they got some of that democracy over there in iraq.....

i don't mean to sound cynical, but i have completely lost faith in both our government and the people of this country. nobody seems to have any idea what is going on, and even less people have half a clue about how to fix it, so i guess you can say i have passed the ledge and went ahead and jumped. see ya on the way down.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being on the ledge. Being on the ledge keeps you alert and informed, however it can overwhelm at the same time. With all the media attention devoted to politics and the scum that is, we often lose sight of what makes this country great, the people. It's those people an their ideas that drive this country, some have different ideas about things than others but each idea deserves to be heard.

Sadly we have reached a point where you either have to agree or disagree, you have to be this or that, either with us or against us. It's not about right or left, it's about right and wrong. We've lost that collective notion of doing people right, and instead society just looks to whatever gets them off...politics has followed right behind.

We have become to fervent in our beliefs that we now immediately vilify anything that challenges our views as evil or an abomination. Without even giving it a chance to be explained or understood, just a cycle of knee jerk reactions and belly aching until someone we agree with proposes something; and we wave the flag and carry the banner of the cause without ever asking a question.

Someone else here recently made the comment about elected leaders changing since the nation was founded from Statesmen to politicians, how true this is. Look back to people like Jefferson, Hamilton, Henry Cly, Susan Anthony, Elizabeth Stanton each of them were pushed to the ledge time and time again. Each of them maintained their self-awareness, not goaded by others into jumping.

The government has been growing since day one, it will continue to grow until it collapses under it's own weight, then it will rise from the rubble once more...the mythical Phoenix reborn. It is an endless cycle we see over and over again throughout human history since men got together and devised a system of law to shackle us all together.

well put men. The thing I'm worried about is what happens when (not if) the goverment does crumble under it's own weight. Where does that leave the common man? Did you guys see that report on how there was wording in the "cash for clunkers" deal that said something about how the computers used became property of the federal government? That's scary stuff...now supposedly they've taken that wording out today I think but man...what is next??

It's going to get worse before it gets worse. I'm not into this talk of overthrowing the Gov't. But now is the time to foster good, strong bonds with your local communities, neighbors, friends, and relatives. They will be your support when this penthouse of cards finally comes crashing down. Were I living in the city, now would be the time for me to head to someplace more rural. It has nothing to do with moving to Montana and stockpiling weapons. It has everything to do with staying as free as possible as long as possible.

Now is the time for little corners of the net like HPFF to shine, while we still can.

Educate, inform, caution, warn, and prepare.

Those who can see the writing on the wall must read to those who can't.

There is nothing wrong with Montana, they are one of the first states to actually pass a law, that hunting is a constitutional right, they are one of the first states that told the Feds to go to hell when it comes to gun ownership and the opposing government background checks, we have all the food we want, as long as your willing to hunt a bit(my last tow deer shot in the front yard), I can still drink a beer while driving down the road, I don't have to duck AK rounds while in town, I can practice shooting in my front yard and nobody says a darn thing, and last but not least, I can take a leak off the back porch and not go to jail for exposing myself!!! What more could you want?

No, this wording from the website the dealers had to use for the program

"Any or all uses of this system, any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, DOT, and law enforcement personnel as well as all authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign. By using this system, the user consents to such interception, monitoring, recording, copying, auditing, inspecting and disclosure at the discretion of CARS or the DOT personnel. "

That's a pretty general EULA for a login based govt site. You should see the agreement on some of the sites I have to submit case logs for work... :brow:

Hey I can "water" my grass here too!

If I'm not mistaken you have to add "foreign personnel" to this list also...Heard that on the news yesterday....

*chuckle*... no I'm not knocking Montana. Just that there was a mindset around here a while back that everyone should buy a truckload of guns and ammo and move there to live off the land. As if somehow Montana was the Mecca for all people worried about Big Gov't. I'm like, Montana's great and all but my last-stand's going to be somewhere warmer. :D

I do like Montana's latest shot-across-the-bow with a lawyerly writ stating that infringement on the state's rights to bear arms would be a breach of contract between Montana and the U.S. thus allowing them the opportunity to secede.

Yeah, I grew up in Northern Michigan. Two seasons, the saying goes: winter and August.

If Rudolph was any guide, you wanna run for the Carolinas.

I think communities are what will see people through the tough times ahead. An agricultural community like ours can pretty much fend for itself at least for a while.

Take a bit of comfort and a bunch of caution from the fact that Big Government isn't sustainable.
