Alright guys I need your help. I was browsing the new issue of Maxim that was delivered today and I came across the pic below. My first thought obviously was, "Holy crap! What type of rifle is that?" Err...maybe that wasn't my first thought but, it was up there on the list. My C&R identification skills aren't very good yet so I figured I would ask here since there seems to be many C&R buffs out there. Personally I think she's smokin' hot, and I guess that girl in the pic isn't too bad either :D I hope the pic isn't too racy for HPFF but, the rifle makes up for it. Without further ado:

I take back my mauser guess... as the maxim rifle doesn't have a metal " circle something " in the buttstock, and the rifle SW stated does fit the profile of the Maxim rifle better than the K98...

3 Cheers for SW..

Rifle? What rifle? I did think mauser but couldn't have told ya specifics.

On a related subject and I can't find a still of it so it would have to be from someone who watches King of the Hill on Adult Swim..when they do commercial breaks they have still pics of hillbillies sometimes and there is one where a hillbilly is pointing a rifle (looks like some sort of flintlock?) up toward the sky. This rifle always catches my eye...anyone seen it and know what it is?

Now let's not be too hasty in our praise just yet.....

The rifle in the pic is actualy a Yugoslavian M24/47 8mm Mauser. The M48 and the German K98k share the same type of stock, i.e. the stock has a sling slot cut through the buttstock. The pictured rifle clearly does not have this sling slot. The Yugo M24/47 and the Yugo M48 do share the same sight hood, so does the Yugo M24/52. The M24/52 has a cavalry style sling attachment swivel on the left side of the wrist area on the stock with no provision for a sling to attach to the bottom as the pictured rifle does. So to answer the question, the rifle can only be a Yugoslavian M24/47.

Here's a pic of my M24/47 for reference:

the littel circle thingy on a German Mauser is a brass tag where the unit it was assigned to was stamped along with other information. kripp could fill you in better on the details.

SW
The Germans stopped using "unit Marking Discs" before the adoption of the Kar98K. The reason for the hole in the stock with a brass liner and steel outer rings, is simply a tool to be used to aide the soldier in taking the bolt apart. It is commonly referred to as a "bolt takedown disc".

On a scale of 1-10 Kripp... 1 being not much and 10 being outer space... How far off were we? Different scores for all who guessed.
