Nice handgun. Keep the rounds below 95 grain. the frame can't handle any hotter loads. I'm using Hornady 95 gr XTP, semi jacketed hollowpoints. I also have some silver Bear 95 grain HP, but you have to be careful. Quality control isn't what it should be in russia. It is not a Makarov!! the only simularity is that it takes the 9x18 Mak round. There is plenty of info on this firearm on the Gunboards Makarov forum. I rounded off some of the sharp edges and changed out the springs and it is sweet. It is my daily carry gun. Enjoy!

 

I prefer shooting Winchester or Federal 95gr FMJ ammo for range shooting and use Hornady 95gr XTP's for my SD ammo. The brass cased US made ammo cost more but its easier on the gun, most steel cased import loads are very hot and put a lot of stress on the fixed barrel Makarov and PA63's.

The PA63's frame is an alloy, some say Aluminun, so I would avoid using really hot loads with it. Wolf used to import 100gr and 109gr 9x18Mak ammo, this ammo should NEVER be used in an alloy framed PA63. It's like shooting +P+ rated ammo in a non +P rated revolver. It's been a couple years since I have seen the heavy weight Wolf loads, but I am sure some dealers still have a good bit stashed here and there, so keep an eye out when you buy. 90gr and 95gr loads are ok to shoot in the PA63.

Only bad thing about the PA63 is they generally have a real heavy double action trigger pull. It gets better with time, and the more you shoot the more you get used to it. http://www.makarov.com used to sell a Wolf spring kit that would lighten the DA pull weight considerablly, but not sure if they still offer it now. Been a while since I visited their site. Spare mags should also be available via Makarov.com at decent prices.

You did good on the price. Last few I have came across in shops have been tagged $199!!!! This is why I dont own a PA63 YET!

Yep Loopster, Same pistol. FEG PA-63. I paid a couple dollars less than you did but I think you got a good deal.

Mine looks brand new and came with 2 mags with matching serial#s.

Have you shot it yet. Mine was a handful! The springs tamed it down nicely.

I have had zero problems with it before or after the spring mod.

As far as a SD gun, only you will be able to judge after you shoot it and see how it behaves and how comfortable you feel with it.
