Stryker1,
Thanks for the information about zinc. I am wondering, would the same thing apply, that is the lead melting first, if while melting some ingots I have that might contain zinc, would the lead melt out first?

Well think of this way....there are 7000 grains per pound. so you have 700,000 grains. Now you're right depending on bullet size...which when casting can be anywhere. but say you have a modest bullet at 150 grains, thats 4700 bullets. At 125 gr (some 9mm) you would have about 5600 bullets.

I got 100lbs of wheel weights for $35.00 I thought it was a good deal.
Whats that around 45,000 to 75,000 bullets depending on the size?
Were they sorted? You could have Zinc and steel weights mixed in as well... plus the steel clips if they have not been taken out.. SO I would imagine you actually got about 80# maybe 90# of actual usable material... still not a bad way to go... Currently I am sitting on a 5 gallon bucket full out in the garage.. pick a few up here and there when I think about it.. got no idea how much it weighs.. It is HEAVY ... Nice to have around for that rainy day...

This is an old post. All the clips and other junk float to the surface.

Well, I was out of ingots to make my bullets out of. So I started at 8 am and got a fire going and started to melt the last wheel weights I had left. I only had a 5 gallon bucket left almost full of wheel weights and thought I would get more then this. I got done at 11 am. Guess it's time to go see my tire shop and pickup 2 more 5 gallon buckets of weights. I only have this many bullets left. I figure it will be a month or two before I run out of rounds and will have to go buy more primers and powder, might as well get everything ready now for when the time comes to start reloadin again.

Then I made this setup. I hope I didn't get too technical in my terminology.

PS:
they haven't used lead in wheel weights for about 10 years.
