I just have a soft spot for them. I have a select few, and the Henry Single Shots have been a worthy replacement, but they are just not the same.

By all accounts the H&R single shots went away because they were viewed as entry level rifles and they just could not compete with the entry level single shots. So don’t bring back the base models, bring back the Classic and Ultra. Price them to be competitive with the Henry single shots. I believe they could hold their own.

The Deluxe Classic was their line of shotguns. Bring them back in all gauges from 410 to 12, maybe even 10 ga. One in 28 gauge would be great for upland and doves. Thev16 gauge would be a good Al around. If geese were on the menu, the 10 would shine.

The Buffalo Classic was offered in a carbine length in 45 Colt, and the rifle model was offered in 38-55 and 45-70. I would bring the rifles back in rimmed cartridges from the 17 Hornet to the 45-120. I would love to have a 22 Hornet and 30-30 Winchester with 26" barrels. The Buffalo Classic Carbine should be chambered for rimmed cartridges from 32 S&W to 50 S&W. I would love to have one in 32 H&R Magnum.

The Ultra could be chambered in rimless cartridges from the triple deuce (222 Remington) to 35 Whelen.I will keep my 25-06 thank you! The Ultra came withtwo stock options, Monte Carlo and Thumbhole.

And the revolvers. My favorites are .22 Long Rifles, but maybe these could be converted to w H&R magnum as well.
The 999 Sportsman was just a good all around revolver and the 903 was for those who wanted a scoped hunting revolver.

Greg_R,
I had an Ultra in 223....heavy-barrel junk-pile...and a Handy in 30-30...not to good either....they are dust in the Road behind me.....shotties: I like the Stevens single barrel much better than any H&R...

Seems to me that there is a real good reason they are gone...

I once had quite the collection of Handi Rifles. From 2000 until their demise I was only a couple of cartridges short of having every caliber they produced. Either a complete rifle or a barrel from their accessory program.

Yes, I had a few problems. A 243 that was only accurate with lite for caliber bullets, a 35 Remington with headspace issues, a 25/06 that strung vertically, but by and far they did what a rifle was supposed to do. They had their quirks, like wanting to be rested on the frame rather than the forearm for best accuracy off the bench, but by and large they were fine firearms.

They are getting some seriously high prices today. $500 -$600 is not uncommon. Some models with special features or chambering are fetching a K note. I was following a mint 999 engraved Sportsman on Gunbroker that sold for over $900. I wanted that one bad, but not that bad!

I still have my H&R 12 single shot. I had two Handi Rifles in .223 Remington, and both of them shot very well. I miss those two, and should have never sold them off.

Yeah, the Henry's are nice...and expensive. Plus, good luck finding any of their single shot rifles in a gun store. I checked with two locally about ordering one in .223 Remington, and both said it would probably take 5-6 months to even get one in. Guess Henry is busy.

I have seen some CVA single shot rifles about, but don't know much about their quality.

I do wish someone would sell either break action, or falling or rolling block rifles that are budget oriented. Savage/Stevens sells the 30G, a copy of the old .22 Favorite, Crack Shot or Boys gun, and it's about $200, despite being closer to $300 a decade ago.

You would think someone could make a break action center fire that is very accurate, and could compete with the Savage Axis or the other package guns in or below that $350 range. If the new Remington were to start making their old No.4 rifle in modern calibers, rimmed or not, they could sell a few. Especially in the straight wall cartridges. 360 Buckhammer, anyone?

I have a 922, it was cheap compared to other DA/SA .22 revolvers, but I like it.

I got several H&R 12 ga and 20 ga shottys for $70 to $90 several years ago. My FFL bought all the guns from game and fish that they used for hunters safety. They got a semi trailer full of different guns. G&F bought new guns to replace the old ones.

PSA bought H&R/New England in the bankruptcy. If anyone can get them out at reasonable prices it's them, but they would have to want to. Towards the end they were getting expensive for what they were. I paid $329 for a .243 for my step daughter which is about the starting price of a bolt.

I do wish that they would come back out though. I've owned a few and still do have a couple and they were plenty good enough for what I bought them for. I'm kicking myself for never having bought the 10ga and one in .44mag with iron sights would make the perfect deer rifle for the Michigan woods, but noooo back then I was all about pumps and semi autos and .30-06.

I have a Rossi 17 HMR. Stupidly heavy barrel, and not that accurate. It wasn’t much money, though.

Apparently all the molds H&R used were scrapped. So they would have to get new molds made, at a couple hundred thousand a piece.
Wish Henry would make an economy version of their single shots. Cheaper wood and sights.

Today, with all the CNC out there, they might be cheaper to make by milling.

I bought a second hand h&r sportsman for $75 in 1976. It's a great revolver. I've killed a bunch of squirrels and rabbits, and a few varmints, ( live trap..snicker) with it. It's remarkably accurate. My only beef is the rear sight. It vibrates loose. After I lost the second one, I made one out of a washer. Lots of blue loctite later, it holds.

CVA has some decent looking single shot rifles on their website, but don't know about the quality. They only had one in a caliber that I would be interested in, the .243 Winchester.

They were cheap and never fired. I put the survival stocks on them and shortened several of them. They work pretty good for backpack guns. Camper shotgun and I hung a few over the doors. Added slings to hold 00 buck and slugs.

One of my friends bought his daughter the Rossi Trifecta at the same time I bought mine a New England .243. When we went out to sight them in (he had the .243 barrel on his) he asked if mine rattles. What? That Rossi rattled worse than anything made on whipped out machinery at the end of WWII. Long story short, after the girls got a taste of deer hunting and decided that they didn't want to keep doing it I kept the New England .243 and my son uses it now. He sold that Rossi just as fast as he could.

My son bought a CVA in the 350 legend this past deer season and it performed well. I have a cva in 45/70. It does the job on deer. But they still aren't the old Handi rifle I loved.

Just yesterday at the gun show I ran across a H&R 676. 22/22mag. This was like new in box. Story is I had one as my first ever handgun. Traded it sometime for a centerfired pistol probably back in the 80s. Cause they were everywhere for 100 bucks. Well fast forward to 2022! Priced at 500 bucks. He and I talked for awhile and I fondled it. He said he'd do 450. But I just couldn't pull it's trigger knowing I paid less then 75 bucks new lol. I have no use for it except the memories lol
I still want the H&R 9shot break open sportsman too.

I found a like new engraved 999 sportsman. Asking price was $999. No, I did not buy it.

Thing is, H&R had a fairly large following. Prices on handi rifles have gone up considerably since they went under. I have been finding them from $400 to $600 depending on condition, and more for certain chamberings.
