I took a weird fall at Judo last night and hurt my ribs somehow. Possibly a cracked sternum or a separated rib or something like that. Went to urgent Care this morning and they are sending me to get x-rays. Say the ribs don't feel right. Might just be bruising. Crossing my fingers.

Getting old, my friend…😉
Well, judo is a contact sport and things happen.

But, yeah, that too. :)

Dang! Hope it’s not serious.
Probably not. Symptoms seem closest to a separated rib. Maybe, if I'm lucky, just a bruised rib. BIG difference in recovery time.

Good news. Just got a call from the doctor and he says there's no obvious breaks showing in the x-rays. So probably just some bruised ribs and maybe a little bit of a muscle tear or something. Ibuprofen and listening to my body for pain for the next couple of weeks is the direction.

Good to hear. Heal quickly.

I once had a broken / seperated rib. Caused by coughing. That hurt for a long time. Never want to have another!

What's weird is that when I took the fall, I heard and felt a series of pops. Now, when I turn/twist/bend-over/stretch a certain way, I still hear and feel those pops and the pain comes with it. When I turn back/twist the other way, it all (literally) pops back into place and the pain goes away. That's what made me think separated rib but the radialogist apparently doesn't see it. That's good. A week or two healing is better than 6 to 10 weeks.

Freshly cacked ribs are extremely difficult to diagnose via x-ray and don't necessarily present with associated symptoms of external trauma such as bruising.

Now, it usual happens down in 8, 9, or 10th ribs because they're not fixed to the sternum, but you may have strained the ligaments that hold your ribs in place, allowing them to shift position irritating the surrounding muscles and nerves. It's called slipping rib syndrome and is prone to occur in middle aged men who suffer chest injuries.

no visible signs of trauma. No bruising or obvious swelling.

Could very well be. I've managed to avoid serious trauma to my ribs up to this point in my life. Worst I ever had was a serious muscle strain that could have been mistaken for a broken rib but wasn't. Did manage to partially separate my right shoulder. Some loss of mobility due to that one. Of course I have had a broken foot and some other minor breaks and contusions. Naturally, all of them from martial arts. ...because I'm stubborn or a slow learner or something. ;)

A wise man says that it takes a tough man to get old.
A wiser man says DON'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN.

You may want to try resveratrol and tumeric. I take them all the time and love them.

My digestive system doesn't like tumeric. Haven't tried resveratrol. I do take a solid amount of supplements, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements. I think the garlic covers most of what the tumeric would do for me.
