Just bought a bit of lead pipe at the salvage yard. Paid $0.85 a pound for it. A buck a pound is not bad if it has already been cleaned and poured into ingots.

$1/lb is a bit less than half the cost of already cast, lubed, and sized bullets. About 8 years ago, the cost of a 1# lead ingot was the same as buying 1# of cast bullets—then, of course, cast bullet prices went up.
Does it really pay, unless you are casting for some special cartridge?
I can hardly find ANY lead wheel weights any more.

Use 9mm, about the cheapest centerfiree pistol round you can find as a base.

1 pound of lead will net you about 56 124 grain bullets. The last pound of Unique powder I bought was $28, and the last sleeve of primers were $38. I use range pickup, so the brass is free. Round everything up and you come to $0.08 per bullet, or $4 for a box of 50.

Been so long since I bought a box of 9mm I'm only guessing at the price, but what is a 50 round box of 115 grain? $6? So a savings of $2?

Hey, I was guessing! I bought some federal aluminum back when I got the 995, no store bought 9mm since. A goodly percentage of my firearms have never seen a factory round. As to reloading supplies? I buy a bit from time to time, either as I use it, or if I find a good price. I am well stocked.

  11. greg r.... same here. I'll collect 9mm and 45 acp pistol brass from a local Pennsylvania state gamelands range. You can get free brass by the buckets.
Makes shooting pistol rounds super cheap!!
