When I first started arming up again in 2012/13, I decided that I was going to concentrate on the main calibers and have certain rules... 22lr, 9mm, 5.56/.223 for sure. My first new gun was paid for but awaiting the final few parts. It was an AR15 "built" by an Army Ranger. Then... the Sandy Hook school shooting happened. So darn near everything was out of stock overnight. So I developed my rules of prepping for defense.
1. Any new handgun purchases must also be matched with 6+ magazines (total)
2. Rifles/Carbines must have 10+ magazines (if so equipped, total)
3. Any "new" (previously unowned) calibers must be built up to 1,000 rds minimum.
4. New Calibers must be stocked to 1,000 rounds minimum after initial break-ins.
5. "One is None, Two is One, and THREE is a GOOD START!"
(old prepper wisdom with my twist)
That's pretty much it, obviously revolvers and tube fed rifles don't have a magazine rule, and possible exceptions are for instance, I have more than one 22 rifle, the Marlin 795 has less than 10 magazines, because my S&W 15/22 has met the rule. Besides, 22lr is not a battle caliber anyway

I just try and apply common sense after the basic spirit of the rule is met. My 10mm G-Series platform has the mag rule covered, but my Tanfoglio Witness Hunter is never gonna have the full count of 6, unless I really get to shooting it a LOT and love it. In reality, once I get a caliber and gun combo covered by the rules, the additional guns don't have to all have the extra magazines. Or I can take the rule and use it as a Minimum, for instance, my 9mm stash? Let's just say "I have enough" and I am selling my "vanilla 115gr ball ammo" for a reasonable price, due to the current climate. Cuz I standardized to 9mm NATO a while back
I'm just blessed to be able to have afforded it all :twocents:
