Just wondering how many people consider themselves to be Libertarians.
It seems like its growing at a very fast pace since last election.

I would consider myself to be.
Before that I was an independent.
Before that I was Republican.

Feel free to post opinions about the party but please stay friendly.

The freedom to make so much money that the people that work for you cant afford to feed their familys. In so many words. Freedoms that infringe on other peoples freedoms. Theres more to it. Im not done thinkin about it.

While I feel what your sayin, those employees have the freedom work somewhere else, or for themselves. Noone is forcing them into it. But I totally agree with the statement that you can't infringe on other peoples freedoms. I for one don't like the idea of crimes without some form of damage, a'la speeding tickets, as long as noones rights are infringed I don't see a crime being commited, which thats pretty libertarian now that I mention it.

I have to disagree with this. If the person making "so much money" are doing it within the laws of the land they have every right to do so. There will always be people who have more of this worlds goods than others. Some because they work very hard to get it and others because they are crooked. Now as for the poor... well if you don't work as hard as someone else or you have less skill or education or whatever the case is... you most likely will make less money.

Taking money from the person who has worked very hard to get it and giving it to the person who has not... well that is not the way this country was founded.

I would almost be a libertarian if I wasnt already a socialist. I think capitalism can put alot of people in a place where it doesnt matter if they have the freedom to work somewhere else it just isnt an option. The way socity is it doesnt put people at the same advantage to pull them selves up. They say everybody has the same opratunities but they realy dont have them. We all know where you are born and who your family is matters alot "in making it." I think that the government shouldt step in and level things up a bit because thats not what capitalism is about.

Yes they have the right. I dont think they should have that right. The way this country was founded isnt the biggst issue here for me.

If you don't think they have the right, then the law needs changed, but not so that it takes from someone, but so that it prevents them from taking from someone else. You need to medicate the cause not the symptom.

Dustin: If you don't feel like someone has the right to make as much as possible (within the laws), would your solution be some sort of "salary cap" or income adjustment? I'm not bashing your opinion, just curious.

theqbn:

the Libertarian party doesn't have a set view point on abortion- most that I know are actually pro-life as is Ron Paul who is probably the most well known Libertarian politician.
I'm pro-life myself actually, I feel stronger about that topic than I do about the 2nd amendment as a matter of fact.
I'm also a Christian and know several other Christian Libertarians.

Sure you don't want to come out of the closet? ^-^

Word to Ron Paul!!

I am pro-life, but i don't think I have the right to force that opinion on others. I do reserve the right to not like them and/or not associate with them.

I guess you'd have to count me. I've been registered Libertarian for a while.

Since Hospers and Nathan anyway.

Unfortunately the Libertarians have no idea how to win elections. Ive followed them since the 1980 election and they just dont get it.

Open the borders with Mexico? Are you freaking insane???

They had some points but have strayed away from a constitutional stand to a more ..heck I don't even know how to describe it. Hell guys even the Communist Party of America finally wised up and gained power by throwing in with the Dems back in the seventies. Seems they damn near took it over...hint hint.

Something like that, I don mean take money from the "hardworkers" but make decent pay be mandatory. BY eent pay I mean enough to live on and that means enough to afford health care and oher such needs. In my last job I was the Highest paid reglar employee and I made 18,000 a year and I coulnt afford the insurance, the next highest paid person wich was a manger made 90,000 a year had full benifites and did little or no more work than I dd. I think tere are some gaps that need to be closed. I not sure how to do it all.

Because the current situation isn't insane? There wasn't a problem with illegal immigration from Mexico until after the Roosevelt administration closed the border in the '30s. (And used the fear of Mexican workers to justify strong anti-drug laws like outlawing marijuana--that's really worked out well for us too)

The Democrats have had a strong interest in maximum government control for quite some time. Go back to the 1890s and they held a joint convention with the Populists and put a populist on the ticket. The first Republican president wanted total control for the White House, and later Republicans seemed to have backed off on that, but they've found their roots.

Rest easy, you'll get your way and the R&D statists will keep their power. I'm sure most of the voters will agree with you too. If you think the Republicans and Democrats have messed things up--they'll keep giving you more of the same. After all, the two parties deserve to finish destroying the country, they've worked so hard at it.
