I recently bought two M38 Nagants from Century. I finally got around to cleaning them today. I followed the tutorial provided for cleaning a Nagant for the first time. I used Goo Gone to clean the stocks, as a figured this a good citrus based cleaner. It seemed to do a great job . After putting one of the Nagants back together, I noticed that the hand guard was significantly discolored from the rest of the stock. The other Nagant did not have this issue. Is this a common occurrence? It almost seems like this hand guard came of of the similarly colored M44. Is it possible I caused the discoloration? I have provided a picture below. Thanks guys.

Handguard was replaced and the wood doesn't match... very common!

Thanks guys. I was a little worried at first. It looks like they have the darker colored hand gaurds for M38's over at buymilsurp.com.
