Did not get out Friday like I intended. Rain and wind and widowmakers. For some reason I thought the remnants of the hurricane would be here Saturday. I did get out early Saturday. Light rain but no wind. Got the tarp up and hung the hammock under it. Coffee and hot cereal made over the Trangia. Hung out in the hammock a while. It was a bit chilly but I stayed comfortable wrapped up in the SNUGPAK Jungle Blanket and wearing the SNUGPAK Enhanced Poncho Liner. I used the Self Reliance Outfitters tarp and hammock along with the OneTigris hammock under quilt.

by noon the rain had stopped and I gathered some firewood. Everything was soaked, but I was able to split up some of the larger stuff and get to some mostly dry stuff 8n the middle. Yes @ajole I did beat on my knives to get there. I used the TOPS knives that I recently bought, along with my Agatha Canyon Boreal 21 folding bow saw. Good tools, I am really liking the TOPS. The Bushcraft Kukuri 7 made short work of getting to the dry wood. I used the Mini Tom Brown Tracker to make feather sticks, It worked but was a bit awkward, just too small. I went back to the Tom Brown #2 to finish the task, it makes Shirley Temple curls! The #4 will remain my necker, that was my intended purpose anyway. After I got me a good bed of coals, I just threw 2 and 3 inch wet wood on the flames. The heat was welcome.

Supper was a beef stew cooked over the flames in the SRO Outfitters cook set, which is a newly manufactured version of the Swiss Mess Kit made on f stainless steel. It worked well, although the stainless is a bit heavy compaired to the aluminum Swiss version. This is one piece of new equipment that I will definitely use a lot when car camping, but I will likely put the Boundless VoyageTitanium cook set back in my backpack.

I woke before daylight this morning and took out

As for my backpack I used my Hidden Woodsmen Deep Woods 35 liter rucksack. I have had this bag a year or more, but had not used it until this weekend. Malcolm at The Hidden Woodsmen hit the ball out of the park with this one

I broke camp and hiked back to the car, I was about a mile in on the Uwharrie Forest. Was home a little after 11 am. Had some me time, and was able to try out some new gear. Had a relaxing and fun time. I wanted to take my Lightfighter I tent and try it, but with the rain I wanted to be off the ground, hence the hammock instead. Enjoyed myself!

Got home and thought I would tell you all about my weekend adventure. Didn’t even get this typed out before “ Greeggg…!”. I am already ready to go back……. Just sayin’

It’s got a Council Tool Flying Fox in the axe sleeve. I didn’t even take it out, I just wanted to play with the Bushcraft Kukuri I guess. I do intend to replace the Flying Fox with the TOPS High Impact axe, then I will have all the TOPS blades I want.
