Re: Top 4 vehicles traded in for "Cash for Clunkers" SUPRISE Fords...

i wonder how many late model ford explorers we'll be seeing on used car lots in the near future, mysteriously recycled back into the market
None... :( they have to purposely seize up the engine and crush the body. http://jalopnik.com/5327580/video-how-to-disable-a-cash-for-clunkers-car

There's also a $15,000 fine (presumably per vehicle) for failing to disable it properly, so I don't think many people would take the risk for a POS Explorer that was only worth a few grand.

It's a shame, I would love me some sub-$1,000 4wd Explorer beater for my winter driving pleasure.

Re: Top 4 vehicles traded in for "Cash for Clunkers" SUPRISE Fords...

They can still part out some parts, but nothing in the drivetrain. From

What happens to the vehicle I trade in? from http://www.cars.gov/faq

The CARS Act requires that the trade-in vehicle be crushed or shredded so that it will not be resold for use in the United States or elsewhere as an automobile. The entity crushing or shredding the vehicles in this manner will be allowed to sell some parts of the vehicle prior to crushing or shredding it, but these parts cannot include the engine or the drive train.

I have the opposite take on this one fellas. If the trade in most frequently seen is a Ford Explorer and they are receiving these vehicles dating back to '94-'95, that means there are a bunch of 14 and 15 year old Fords out there still running around. That's not bad. Despite some of the chatter I see posted, my '98 Ford Ranger has yet to leave me in the lurch. It starts each morning and does what a truck should. I believe the odo is at about 150,000. Not too bad for an 11 year old vehicle. ;)

RIP '99 Ranger... *cry* This was the last time I saw my poor buddy... at the Toyota dealership. The guy in the picture is the salesman writing up the VIN number.

May you rest in peace dear friend.

EDIT: She had 147869 miles on her.

Re: "Cash for clunkers" another agenda scam

I think the government should start a "clunkers for junkers" program. People, such as myself, that are driving a 2000 Hyndai can trade up to one of the "clunkers" traded in by someone else.

There is no way they get my F150 for the privilege of making payments. Hope the Chinese don't make too many tanks out of all the scrap metal we send them.

More Ak patterned rifles here than China, little know fact but then we can legally own weapons...for a while yet. Of course ours arent full auto.

Dont need a Mak the barrel on the Saiga is as good or better and that's the critical component on an AK, besides mine is .308 big improvement. HUGE improvement...

Re: Top 4 vehicles traded in for "Cash for Clunkers" SUPRISE Fords...

I've always owned American cars. Except for two. Just good neighbor policy. Mostly Fords now that I think about it. I didn't know Fords were socialist-mobiles. Somebody better tell em.

First car: 1970 Buick Century 4 door Custom. Guy told me if I could get it running I could have it. I had a $1200.00 car buying budget for my first car. So I chose the free one. Spent $800.00 getting it road worthy. Good car.

Second: 1982 Ford Mustang LX that had the original motor pulled and a 5.0 plugged in. Hard to drive. Had to put two salvaged carburetors on it.

Third: Ford Escort wagon 4 speed. It ran!

Fourth 1990 Toyota Tercel Coupe. First and Last new car I have ever owned. Head warped after 38 days. Cost me $1800.00 in repairs since the head wasn't on the extended powertrain warranty.

Fifth: Plymouth Turismo. Bought from Cousin. Great car.

Sixth: Ford escort wagon.

Seventh: Ford Windstar. It caught fire from the wiring in the dash. They said I ignored the recall by moving to Florida. So I had to pay for it.

Eigth: Post Divorce Car. 1986.5 Toyota Supra The first import model Supra with a turbo. God I miss that car.

Ninth: Ford Tarus. It ran.

Tenth: 1978 Ford Crown Vic. The taurus and me got t-boned, and the tow truck guy came to the hospital and said he would trade me the Taurus for the Crown Vic. Sold it 4 months later to a guy who needed to rear end for a dirt track car.

Eleventh: 1998 Buick Century. It ran GOOD.

Twelve'th: 2001 Ford Expedition EB. I like it. I have carried so much stuff in that truck it shocked me and everyone who saw it. Once you get rid of the air ride system and slap in some big ole springs, it handle more like a truck than a luxary SUV.

I don't know what I will get after this.

Maybe a Honda Ridgeline, or a Toyota Tundra. Seems like so many of you great Americans are driving foriegn cars, I wouldn't wanna keep throwin money into a sinking ship you know.

Yeah wish my topic of just ragging on Fords and Chryslers hadn't turned political...
Just wanted to share my passion of hatred for them with you...

Just think in a year or two you will see a lot of folks asking for bailout from the gov. to pay for the cars they bought. This was a bad idea. giving my money to me to me to buy a car I really dod not need just to make obama say it working
